MAJOR FUNCTION

The Athletic Trainer identifies injury risk factors associated with participation in competitive athletics and plans and implements all components of a comprehensive athletic injury program, which includes injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counseling for student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer will assist in the development of performance enhancement programs for the student athletes. Areas of performance enhancement include strength and conditioning, sports medicine, sports nutrition and mental health. The Athletic Trainer must provide services and care as directed by the College’s contracted physician. The Athletic Trainer must maintain a record of all medical events regarding the College’s student-athletes and report any new or recurring injuries or conditions. Related responsibilities include accurate and timely completion of accident injury reports, collection of information required for filing insurance claims, record-keeping for student athlete injuries and insurance, and the necessary follow-up and communication to close out treatment, treatment plans and insurance. Concurrently with the Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer must also provide annual medical insurance information to all student-athletes reviewing the College’s insurance policy and its coverages, the applicable reporting requirements, and the student-athlete’s contact information. Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for: Collaborates with physicians and other local health care providers to develop and implement a comprehensive rehabilitation program for athletic injuries. Cares for athletic injuries, using physical therapy equipment, techniques, or medication. Assesses and reports the progress of recovering student-athletes to coaches and/or physicians. Implements measures to prevent injuries and to prepare student-athletes for practice and competition. Provides the Director of Athletics and coaches with a list of student-athletes medically eligible to compete under NJCAA, conference, and College rules and regulations. Drafts and maintains accurate records of injuries and tracks appropriate medical treatment given. Serves as athletic department’s liaison to healthcare providers when discussing specific injuries and treatment options. Coordinates health insurance related processes related to billing and claims. Supervises interns and part-time training staff. Assists the Director of Athletics in the development of the athletic training budget. Assists in the maintenance and supervision of athletic training room, equipment, and supply inventory. Evaluates and recommends new techniques and equipment that would enhance the athletic training program. Confers with coaches to select protective equipment and advises student-athletes on proper use of equipment. Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NJCAA, FCSAA, Panhandle Conference, and College rules and regulations. Draft policies and procedures related to the athletic training program. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Our ideal candidate will have:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in sports medicine, athletic training, exercise science, kinesiology, physiology, human anatomy or a related area, or a master’s degree in a related area. Must possess state of Florida athletic training license and be certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certifications (NATABOC). Must possess current CPR and First Aid certifications (or be able to obtain certifications within six months of employment).
