Theposition works under the supervision of the Sports MedicinePhysician and the Head Athletic Trainer, and reports to theDirector, Rehab Services. Provides athletic training services tostudent-athletes at designated athletic programs (colleges or highschools) and in accordance with the Georgia Practice Act.

Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and problem-solvingskills in applying a detailed knowledge of the responsibilities,functions and structure of the department and of the largerinstitution. Works independently in organizing and prioritizingwork, ensuring procedures, systems and orderly and timely flow ofwork through the office with the Athletic Director. Worksindependently in organizing and prioritizing sports medicineservices at designated school(s). Makes decisions within prescribedlimits of authority, in the absence of the Director, RehabServices.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
ATHLETICTRAINER ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provides evaluation of athletic injuriesto high school /or college athletes, preventive and supportivetaping of athletes and instructs taping techniques
  • Educatesathletes, coaches, and parents about preventing injuries andappropriate treatment for injuries and illnesses
  • Coordinatesscheduling for radiologic studies, patient clinic appointments,lectures to outside groups (Georgia Athletic Trainers, HOSAClasses) and visits to local athletic directors and/or coaches
  • Provides athletic training coverage for assigned school(s) withschedule to be determined.

Bachelor’s Degree Athletic Training or similardegree from an accredited college Required orRequired MinimumLicense(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum2 years experience in outreach setting

PreferredRequired MinimumSkills:

Ability to follow and interpret departmental andorganizational policies and procedures.

Provide athletic trainingservices for practices and athletic contests as assigned.

Act as aliaison between department Athletic Director, team physicians,student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, fellow athletictrainers, and parents.

Maintain injury/treatment log forstudent-athletes and submit periodic reports to Director asscheduled.

Development and oversight of student athletictrainers.

Attend any in-service activities/monthly meetings offeredthrough assigned WellStar hospital.

Secure, stock, and maintain aclean and organized Athletic Training Room.

Maintain inventory ofsupplies.

Promote athletic and sports safety in the community andassist Medical Director/Head Athletic Trainer with implementationof all aspects of program.

Participates in professional developmentactivities and maintains licensure and other professionalaffiliations.

Plan and implement Physicals for student athletes inconjunction with assigned schools, hospital, and physicians asdetermined by WellStar facility.
