Job Summary:

Evaluates, plans,instructs, and monitors athletic training programs to help athletesprevent damage, restore function, and reach maximum level ofindependence. Evaluating athlete?s sports related injuries, physicalconditions, and needs; recommending a scientific care plan to includeschedule, treatment programs, and related education based on theircapabilities and limitations. Utilizing appropriate assistive devices toprotect athletes from injury; Explaining and updating safety rulesgoverning daily training, recreational activities, and the use ofprofessional exercise equipment. Implementing and monitoring athletictraining programs for rehabilitation and reconditioning per athlete’sdiagnosis and real-time condition. Documenting and interpretingappropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, includingthe medical record, physician, and family.

GOALS:

To apply theprinciples, methods and procedures of evaluation and treatment ofathletic injuries, preconditioning, condition, and reconditioning ofathletes through the use of appropriate preventative and supportivemeans.

DUTIES:

1. Prevention of athletic injuries through the followingprocedures: orthopedic screening; individual exercise programs forathletes with preexisting conditions; examine and make recommendationsregarding playing fields to ensure safety; participate in equipmentfitting for football and ice hockey; and assist coaches in developingyear round conditioning programs. 2. Recognize and evaluate athleticinjuries. 3. Provide for medical coverage for home contests and dailypractices; coordinate emergency medical procedures for all teams at alllocations; coordinate emergency medical services as needed; follow theprescribed treatment of the team physician/or licensed physician. 4.Provide for the management, treatment, and disposition of athleticinjuries through providing injury evaluations before and after practicesand referring athletes to the appropriate health care professional. 5.Provide rehabilitation of athletic injuries when appropriate, such asrehabilitation for mild to moderate injuries as prescribed by theteam/or licensed physician and provide strength and range of motions andfunctional testing for injured athletes to insure readiness to return totheir sport. 6. Maintain data and complete necessary reports as isrequired including: injury and progress reports; necessary insuranceforms for athletes with medical referrals; daily injury report list withappropriate recommendations; and supply and equipment inventories. 7.Organized preseason physicals for all prospective candidates. 8. Keepparents, coaches, and the athletic directors informed of the athlete’sprogress in rehabilitation. 9. Provide for appropriate educationalprograms for athletes, coaching staff, parents, and others as may berequired. 10. Provide training in first aid and CPR for the coachingstaff. 11. Other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

BOC Certifiedand Massachusetts State Licensed Athletic Trainer Strong background inAthletic Training emergency care and rehabilitation CPR/AEDCertification Strong documentation and communication skills
