Athletic Trainer Summary:

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the comprehensive care, treatment, and prevention of athletic injuries for all students/athletes within the interscholastic athletic program, as well as administrative duties related to student athlete health and safety. This role involves working collaboratively with coaches and School Administration to ensure athletes receive appropriate medical care and treatment.

Qualifications and Attributes:

Holds valid Athletic Trainer Certification and New Jersey License of Eligibility CPR and AED Certified Prior to employment, the following must be addressed: Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with

Experience:

Performance Responsibilities:
The Athletic Trainer Shall:

Assume responsibility for the care, treatment and prevention of athletic injuries. Be responsible for all students/athletes involved in the interscholastic athletic program and for working with the coaches to ensure that all students/athletes are provided or referred for the proper medical care and treatment. Assist the Athletic Director and Coaches to ensure all athletes are properly registered and have received up-to-date sports physicals from the proper health care provider. Create an emergency contact list for all athletes to be given to each coach. Operate within the limitations of the license and abilities. Administer first aid when necessary and/or arrange for medical care. Works closely with all coaches with respect to: conditioning, first aid, reconditioning after injuries, and providing for the well-being of all athletes in the program. Apply protective or injury preventive devices, such as taping, strapping, bandaging, or braces. Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on matters pertaining to conditioning and training, such as diet, rest and rehabilitation. Advises coaches when an athlete may return to their activity and to what level. Works cooperatively with and under the direction of physicians with regard to: Carrying out instructions for the treatment of athletic injuries. Reconditioning procedures. Operation of therapeutic devices and equipment Fitting of braces, guards, and other devices. Referrals to the physician. Work cooperatively with the school nurse to file accident reports. Make available medical kits for each in-season team and supplies, and resupply items contained in the kit as necessary. Submit an annual budget to the athletic director and order all supplies and equipment necessary in accordance with district procedures. Takes inventory of all training equipment and supplies. Make sure AEDs are properly up to date. Attends practice sessions and games When a schedule conflict between contests presents itself, the athletic trainer should attend the home contest unless advised otherwise by the Athletic Director. Attends all home athletic contests. Attends tournaments and athletic contests at the discretion of the Athletic Director when a trainer is not provided by the host school. Student Management Supervises and, when necessary, instructs student trainers and staff under their jurisdiction. Maintains accident reports and records of injuries. Keep informed about the latest equipment and information in the field of sports medicine and maintain their certificate status. Participates in continuous study and research, and attends relevant conferences and workshops to maintain and enhance professional competence in accordance with district guidelines and budget allocations. School and Community Relations Advise parents in relation to the athlete’s care and injuries. Serves as liaison with the school nurse. Interpret the athletic training program to the administration and staff. Facilitates effective student, staff, and community communications about the athletic training program. During the off-season, when there are no athletic events after school, the Athletic Trainer may be assigned tasks in the building as long as they do not interfere with his or her primary responsibilities as an athletic trainer. If these tasks include covering classes, the trainer will be capped at 3 classes per day. Duties such as lunch duty are considered one class Perform any other duties within the scope of their employment and certification that may be assigned. Athletic Trainers will maintain accurate and detailed records which include:

  • Injury reports.
  • Doctor’s notes.
  • Rehabilitation protocols.
  • Insurance claim forms.
School Insurance Claims:

Athletic Trainers will complete and submit school secondary insurance forms for athletes who require a doctor’s visit. IND2

From $64,500.00 per hour
