Responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive athletic care program that focuses on injury prevention and provides for injury evaluation, care and rehabilitation of injured athletes. Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Assists coaching staff in planning, designing and implementing appropriate programs that will reduce the
possibility of weather-related injuries.
Develops emergency procedures for injured athletes and other students injured in school sports-related
activities.
Monitors the progress of injured athletes and advises coaches regarding return to practice and games.
Informs and advises coaches of the progress of student athletes and the degree to which they may
participate in practice and game sessions.
Maintains close communication between the athletic training program and the school.
Develops and implements medical protocols in conjunction with other appropriate personnel.
Develops and implements rules and regulations for athletic training rooms, the athletic training program and
athletic training staff.
Provides medical coverage staffing for high school and middle school home athletic events and practices, as well as away games when possible.
Administers first aid as needed.
Evaluates and treats chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain athlete’s performance.
Provides athletes with protective or injury-prevention devices, such as adhesive tape, bandages, braces and other special equipment.
Provides medical assistance to injured athletes as prescribed by a licensed physician with respect to
evaluating injuries, and referring appropriate cases to medical facilities, operating therapeutic devices and
equipment, fitting braces, guards, and other devices.
Supervises athletic training rooms, which includes repositioning and storing supplies and equipment, and
maintaining accurate records. Performs routine safety inspections of training rooms.
Ensures all athletic training staff maintain First-Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
Ensures all records, logs and reports are maintained in accordance with requirements, policies and
procedures.

Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training
Current State of South Carolina Athletic Training Licensure through South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. (SCLLR)
Current certification through the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
Must hold a National Provider Identifier number Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/carrying objects. Medium strength is required to position patients for examination. May assist patients as needed, assisting them on and off the exam table. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, holidays and weekends. Conducts duties in both indoor and outdoor environments with some exposure to heat, cold, disease (through handling bodily fluids), and ethyl chloride. Requires constant attention working with students and long work hours. Strenuous physical demands are occasionally required to lift/move items up to 150 pounds. Occasional local and overnight travel is required. Performance Evaluation

Knows and understands the expectations of the District regarding the activities of the department, and works to see that these expectations are met. Designs and formulates ways, means, and timing to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and the District. Within constraints of District policy, formulates appropriate strategy and tactics for achieving departmental and District objectives. Effectively and efficiently organizes, arranges, and allocates manpower, financial and other designated resources to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and the District.

Uses discretion and judgment in developing and implementing courses of action affecting the department. When a particular policy, procedure, or strategy does not foster the desired result, moves decisively and explicitly to develop and implement alternatives.
