Videos Duties The Audiologist plans and coordines clinical and administrive aspects of a full range of services associed with contemporary audiology practice. Audiology services include comprehensive hearing testing, hearing aid prescription and management. In carrying out the clinical duties and responsibilities of this position, the incumbent is responsible for: Independent diagnostic assessment and evaluion of cases th are referred to the Audiology Section without limition as to difficulty or complexity. Conduct interviews with the pients and approprie family members or friends; and to select, administer and interpret the diagnostic test results necessary to detect and evalue the presence of a hearing disorder. Assessing pient conditions from examinion, observion and consultion with other members of an interdisciplinary health care team; Utilizing diagnostic and evaluive procedures and techniques consistent with contemporary audiology practice; Developing an approprie plan of care and delivering trement as designed and consistent with principles of evidence-based practice; Documenting evaluion and trement actions and outcomes in approprie forms in a timely manner, in accordance with facility policy, and completing all reled pient care tasks; Reporting the findings to Veterans and their families, and to professional colleagues; and (6) optimizing clinical safety and efficiency by maintaining supplies, equipment in good working order. The incumbent serves as a consultant to other facility personnel involving the most difficult and complex cases and is a recognized subject mter expert on mters reled to audiology and hearing disorders. The incumbent will remain current with new developments in audiology and will maintain professional competency by reading professional journals and engaging in continuing educion activities and professional learning experiences, and by communicing with other professionals in audiology and reled professions.

Educion:
(1) Doctor of Audiology (AUD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accredition (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Associion (ASHA). The CAA is the only accredition agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Educion (USDE) and the Council for Higher Educion Accredition to accredit entry-level audiology programs. HR office staff and management officials may verify the program accredited from CAA www.caa.asha.org. OR; (2) Other doctoral degreein hearing science or a directly reled field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Educion.
PLEASE NOTE
Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and Speech-Language Phology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AUD programs in audiology.
Licensure-documention submitted:
Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology the doctoral level in a United Stes ste, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia. Non-licensed audiologists who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure may be given a temporary appointment as a gradue audiologist the GS-11 grade under the authority of 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2) for a period not to exceed two years from the de of employment on the condition th these audiologists provide care only under the supervision of fully licensed audiologists. Individuals appointed as gradue audiologists may not be promoted to the GS-12 level without being fully licensed. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfhering Provision as described in the VA Qualificion Standard for this occupion (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupion and meet the criteria). Grandfhering Provision. All individuals employed in VHA in this occupional series or in another occupional series performing the duties described in the qualificion standard on the effective de of the qualificion standard are considered to have met all qualificion requirements for the grade held, including positive educion and licensure. For employees who do not meet all the basic requirements of this standard but previously met the qualificions applicable to the position the time they were appointed to it, the following provisions apply: Audiologists may be reassigned, promoted up to and including the full performance (journeyman) level or changed to a lower grade within the occupion, but may not be promoted beyond the journeyman level or placed in supervisory or managerial positions. Audiologists who are converted to title 38 hybrid stus under this provision and subsequently leave the occupion lose protected stus and must meet the full VA qualificion standard requirements in effect the time of re-entry to the occupion. Audiologists who are appointed temporarily prior to the effective de of the qualificion standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they meet the basic requirements of the standard. Audiologists initially grandfhered into this occupion, who subsequently obtain additional educion and/or licensure/certificion/registrion th meet all the basic requirements of this qualificion standard, must maintain the required credentials as a condition of employment in the occupion.
