Summary/Objective The Behavior Technician teaches social and adaptive skills to individuals diagnosed with Autism and other disorders using strategies deriving from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), primarily in a center setting. Behavior Technicians implement behavior reduction techniques as outlined in client’s individualized plan while maintaining positive family involvement in therapy sessions. Additionally, they communicate effectively with supervisor to ensure treatment is up-to-date and tailored to clients’ needs and uphold a positive working relationship with other therapists, families, and general staff. Essential Functions Conduct individual or group sessions with assigned clients at the center, and/or surrounding community. Follow treatment plan goals and adhere to teaching strategies as outlined by the team’s BCBA Accurately record client progress on skills and behaviors during each session, and submit electronically after each session with client Model teaching strategies to client’s family members as needed Regularly communicate with clients’ parent/caregiver on their child’s progress Adhere to established ABATEC policies and procedures, objectives, safety, ethical, and environmental standards. - Work Environment
- This job might operate in an office/program center environment and in other designated recreational or community areas.
The therapists are required to use mobile devices to transmit data captured during the therapies as required by ABA evidenced-based guidelines. The therapists are required to have access to reliable transportation to Malden, MA. Physical Demands Duties may require standing, walking, and running outside during summer months. They may require some reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and sitting on floor. During sessions, therapists may need to sit and lean forward for continuous periods of time. Perform physical safety and physical management procedures, per requirements of Behavioral Safety Training.
- Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- Must be available to work between 2:00pm-6:00pm on weekdays.
- Saturday work (10am-1pm) is optional
- A minimum requirement of 12 hours per week
- Required Education and Experience A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position.
At least two years of experience working with children and/or teenagers in an educational or care capacity is required. A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work or related field is preferred. At least two years of proven success in working with autism or special needs is recommended.
