Job Description
Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) $650 training bonus 3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 16 Commerce Drive, Augusta, ME 04330 Our young clients, ages 2-5 want to hang out with you! Heartleaf ABA is a center-based program that works with young kids with autism and we are hiring people that enjoy children of this age and are comfortable/have experience of being around people with autism. We use a technique called ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) to help them build skills for life- and we will teach it to you. Using ABA, our kids make amazing progress- going from non-verbal to talking and laughing, from pull ups to using the toilet, from isolation to group activities. It is so satisfying (and emotional) to see the progress they make. Their work with you is the reason this happens! We teach parents how to use these same tools so progress can continue at home. Our staff are BHPs (Behavioral Health Professionals)- trained through a 35 hour online program with several lives sessions. This can take place during the first several months of employment. This training is incorporated with the more technical ABA skills to play with the children, introduce them to games and early education routines, reading, socializing etc., following a plan created by the parents, and master level BCBAs (Board Certified Behavior Analysts). This role is part nursery school teacher, part analyst, part big brother/sister mentor. We also want our BHPs to get additional training to become an RBT (registered behavior technician) to gain more skills specific to using ABA. Although RBTs aren’t well known in Maine, the designation is very common in other states across the country and widely recognized. We would love to talk to you if you are interested and fit our criteria:
- HS graduate or GED
- Experience working with children, especially those with autism
- Happy to sit and play on the floor, run after and with kids, change diapers
- Ready to learn the technical skills of ABA and using a tablet to record data
- Tech savvy
- Outgoing, positive and enthusiastic personality
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
