Behavior technician or RBT will work under the supervision of behaviorist. Behavior technician or RBT will implement behavior plans written by behaviorist to address behavior challenges of adults with autism, intellectual disabilities and development disabilities. Behavior technician or RBT will work with behaviorist to design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate a comprehensive behavior support program. Behavior technician or RBT will work with behaviorist to collect and analyze data monthly, visit clients bi-weekly or monthly, attend meetings quarterly and train as needed on behavioral supports and strategies. They provide ABA interventions that encourage socially acceptable replacement behaviors so clients can build and improve upon their communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills. In practice it may vary greatly, since behavioral therapy is specific to an individual client’s needs. The job duties RBTs perform every day include: Providing direct client care in one-on-one and group settings Following the behavior reduction and behavioral skill acquisition protocols Collecting and recording data based on client behavior Communicating with clients, guardians, support staff, and caregivers regarding client progress Assisting behaviorist with behavior reduction assessments and skills acquisition Assisting behaviorist in the preparation of client materials Summary of essential job functions: Assist with the data collection component of a functional behavior assessment (FBA) to identify target behaviors, hypotheses and make recommendations based on client’s behavioral profile and support needs. Assist clients learn communication, social, and daily living skills by using techniques like play-based therapy, social stories, and modeling to reduce maladaptive behaviors. Train Program Manager and staff in the implementation of strategies within the behavior plans, data collection procedures, and the principals of ABA. Measures goals and objectives of behavior support plans to ensure they are being met. On a quarterly basis, consult, evaluate and report on the efficacy of the behavior plan, session with Clients, behavioral patterns and collected behavior data to the team. Track all behavioral services hours and services and report to behaviorist weekly. Participate actively and contribute in the Client’s Annual Service Agreements to give an update on the Client’s behavioral profile. Participate in quarterly meetings and other Client-centered team meetings if the Client has ongoing behavioral concerns and requires update on it. If required, attend Client’s key psychiatric appointments to consult with the treating medical provider and give input to assist in the treatment. Perform documented weekly, monthly, or quarterly Client check in/visits with Clients & their staff to assess the implementation of the behavioral interventions & progress. Ensure open communication with all team members and meet with the behaviorist at least once a week to update and discuss the behavioral programming/services. Work with behaviorist to evaluate, plan and train Program Managers, HCP & Staff to learn how to effectively define and measure behavior; understand principles of reinforcement; teach new adaptive behavior; implement strategies for maladaptive behavior; and identify antecedents.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have a strong foundation in applied behavior analysis and working with the adult population. Must have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with behavior disorders, autism, intellectual disabilities, traumatic brain injuries and other behavior issues. Demonstrates effective communication skills in working with a variety of team members. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to handle emotionally charged situations. Has the ability to train and provide to staff with various levels of expertise to apply behavior management techniques effectively Proficient in data collection, graphing, and analysis Proficient with excel Willing to work on client sites and community setting.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, applied behavior analysis, special ed or related field is required. Registered behavior technician (RBT) preferred but not necessary. Minimum of 3 years of experience working with a diverse client caseload, including adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and/or Emotional and Behavioral Disorders.
