Assistsphysicians with interventional procedures such as but not limitedto transesophageal and stress echocardiograms. The Pediatric/AdultCardiovascular Sonographer is knowledgeable in and carries out allapplicable processes of the department. Assumes responsibility fordesignated areas or procedures. Actively participates inoutstanding customer service and accepts responsibility inmaintaining relationships that are equally respectful.

  • Utilizes the knowledge and skills forage-specific factors necessary to perform safe, accurate andeffective procedures on patients of all ages (neonate/infant,pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatrics).

Acquires knowledgeand skills through training, in-service, continuing educationand/or experience. Learns and adapts to new technologies andprotocols and helps develop the knowledge and competency ofcoworkers and students. Utilizes knowledge of cardiac andperipheral vascular anatomy and physiology. Performs routine andcomplex studies, in addition to assisting with a variety of imagingprocedures. Consistently obtains the highest quality scans possiblein relation to patient body habitus and/or NPO prep status asobserved by Cardiologists, Ultrasound Educator, and Manager.

Follows proper exam protocols as outlined in department Policy andProcedure manual. Utilizes two patient identifiers to confirmpatient/exam accuracy before administering exam. Performs, properlydocuments, and reports all procedures in accordance withdepartmental policy. Adapts procedure to each patients medicalsituation obtaining all available necessary information for properinterpretation. Maintains patient confidentiality.

PersonalProductivity and Accountability:

Completes exams in a timelymanner. Properly and consistently evaluates patient prep status andschedules exam accordingly. Coordinates acceptable patientthroughput in either an IP and/or OP setting keeping the departmenton schedule and maintaining desired productivity. Follows directionfrom Manager and Lead Sonographer. Keeps supervisor or managerinformed and seeks assistance from appropriate individuals whenconfronted with complicated procedures to ensure safe and effectivepatient care. Communicates and collaborates with multidisciplinaryteam. Communicates abnormal findings to the reading physicians andnotifies the physicians of procedures to be interpreted. Maintainsa professional relationship with all customers. Communicates withpatients and family members appropriate to age and understanding.

Data Processing:

Utilizes computer system to update exam status,cancel/update orders as needed. Ensures charges match procedurecompleted. Confirms proper exam/patient assignment at QC beforereleasing images to PACS for interpretation. Effective knowledge ofall Information Systems used in the department. Accuratelydocuments, completes, and charges procedures to ensure qualitystandards set by the department and hospital. Follows allAdventHealth policies and departmental procedures outlines.
