Description:
The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional training toassist during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascularprocedures. He/she will assist the physician during procedures andoperate specialized equipment safely and efficiently. TheCardiovascular Technologist I is responsible for maintainingsterile technique during procedures and assisting in keeping a safeenvironment. This role primarily deals with adults from eighteen tosixty-five and geriatric patients over the age of sixty-five. Thetechnologist may participate in the call rotation once adequatelyoriented and checked off on clinical and operational competencies.
Clinical Skills:
Will train to assist the physician in performingspecific cardiovascular cath and EP procedures. Will train tofunction in monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Works inconjunction with interventional cardiologists,electrophysiologists, and cardiologists. Will train to prep andeducate the patient for the procedure.
Quality and Patient Safety:
Verifies patient ID using two patient identifiers. Verifies frontof patient chart for same/similar name. Verifies Written Order andConsent and seeks clarification for any unclear information.
Utilizes pre-procedural verification/time-out forms. Understandsand complies with site/side marking when indicated.
JobResponsibilities:
Must be flexible with hours to meet departmentalneeds. Able to work scheduled and Cath Lab on-call hours asallowed. Handles communications properly and introduces self topatient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting. Transportspatients as needed and provides privacy and comfort for patients.
Assists with maintenance of departmental records, standards, andperformance improvement. Learns how to enter data into the Cath Lablog and verify accuracy and completeness. Completes necessarypaperwork and answers departmental phone using proper scripting.
Maintains stock levels and checks for outdates. Maintains currentlicenses and certifications. Works as part of a team with other labstaff to achieve the best possible outcomes. Prepares necessarysupplies and equipment for procedures.
Patient Education:
Willtrain to provide patient and family education. Will provideinformation regarding their procedure, including preparation forfuture procedures. Will train to provide post-procedural home careinstructions as needed.
