This job hascertification in Radiography and is responsible for assessingpatients and safely performing routine radiographic procedures inaccordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Inaddition, the technologist has been trained successfully andregistered in theadditional modality.

Education Required

  • Completion of a RadiologicTechnology program in an AMA approved school and/or completion of aCAHEA approved formal training program in Diagnostic MedicalSonographyWork ExperienceRequired
  • 2 years’ experience inRadiologic TechnologyCertificationsRequired
  • Registered by theAmerican Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/orAmerican Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and/orcertification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology CertificationBoard (NMTCB)Current license in the state of practiceAdvanced levelcertification(s) in specific additional modalitiesBasic LifeSupport (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationKnowledge Skillsand Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entryand retrieval of information.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and theability to present information clearly and professionally. Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, varioussoftware packages specific to role and keyboard. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of procedures and technical language Ability to work with and maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure. Ability to work self-directed and to function without directsupervision. Ability and willingness to have and maintain flexibility inwork duties and hours (may require flexible schedule such asnights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.). General knowledge of anatomy as required for specific radiologymodalities. Skills to preliminarily identify abnormal findings as requiredfor specific radiology modalities.

Job Duties Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy. Utilizes radiology information systems to facilitate care. Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding. Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedureaccording to protocol (including placement of IV). Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure imagesmeet diagnostic quality standards. Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance withregulatory standards and performing notification/remediation aswarranted. Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations(inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.). Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, includingbut not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction tothe patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to beperformed, requesting permissions and communication style. Performs other related duties as assigned.
