Travel A Cath Lab Technician (also known as aCardiac Catheterization Lab Technician) is a specialized healthcareprofessional who works alongside cardiologists, radiologists, andother medical staff to perform diagnostic and interventionalprocedures in the cardiac catheterization lab (cath lab). Theseprocedures are primarily focused on diagnosing and treating heartconditions, including coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, andstructural heart problems. Cath Lab Technicians are responsible forpreparing and maintaining equipment, assisting with catheter-basedprocedures, and ensuring patient safety during these complexprocedures. /n/n
Key Responsibilities:
/n /n 1. /n
Pre-ProcedurePreparation:
/n /n
- Prepare the cath lab environment forprocedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and tools aresterile, functional, and properly set up (e.g., catheters,guidewires, contrast agents, X-ray machines). /n
- Verify patientinformation, including medical history, allergies, and consentforms, before the procedure begins. /n
- Assist in the preparationof patients, including setting up the monitoring equipment andensuring proper positioning for optimal procedure results. /n
- Provide patient education and reassurance before the procedure,explaining what will happen and answering any questions.

Procedures:
/n /n
- Assist cardiologists andother physicians during cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stentplacement, electrophysiological studies, and other interventionalprocedures. /n
- Handle sterile instruments, such as catheters,balloons, and stents, during the procedure, ensuring correctplacement and maintaining a sterile field. /n
- Operate X-rayfluoroscopy equipment and assist with imaging during diagnostictests, such as angiograms, to visualize blood vessels and heartfunction. /n
- Monitor vital signs (e.g., heart rate, bloodpressure, oxygen saturation) during procedures and report anyabnormalities to the physician. /n
- Administer medications underphysician direction, such as sedatives or contrast dyes, ensuringpatient safety throughout the procedure.

Post-Procedure Care:
/n /n
- Monitor patients for immediatecomplications after the procedure, such as bleeding, changes invital signs, or signs of infection. /n
- Assist in transferring thepatient from the procedure table to recovery, ensuring comfort andsafety during transport. /n
- Help with patient recovery bymonitoring cardiac rhythm, vital signs, and the insertion site forany signs of complications, particularly bleeding or hematomaformation. /n
- Provide post-procedure instructions to patients andtheir families, including advice on post-operative care, activityrestrictions, and follow-up appointments.

EquipmentManagement and Maintenance:

- Maintain, clean, and sterilizethe cath lab equipment and instruments, ensuring they arefunctioning properly and ready for the next procedure. /n
- Regularly check and troubleshoot cath lab machinery, includingX-ray equipment, electrocardiograms (EKG), defibrillators, andpatient monitors. /n
- Order necessary supplies, manage inventory,and ensure all materials needed for procedures are available and ingood condition. /n
- Assist in the calibration of equipment toensure accurate diagnostic results.

PatientMonitoring and Safety:

- Continuously monitor the patient’svital signs during the procedure, ensuring optimal conditions forthe intervention. /n
- Ensure proper documentation of patientinformation, procedures, and outcomes in the electronic healthrecord (EHR) or procedure logs. /n
- Adhere to safety and infectioncontrol protocols, including the correct use of personal protectiveequipment (PPE), sterile techniques, and radiation safety protocolsto minimize exposure to patients and staff. /n
- Monitor thecatheter insertion site for signs of complications such asinfection or clot formation.

Medical Team:
/n /n
- Work closely with cardiologists,radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to providehigh-quality care for patients undergoing catheterization or othercardiac procedures. /n
- Attend pre-procedure meetings to reviewpatient conditions and provide input on the appropriate procedure./n
- Assist in evaluating the results of diagnostic tests,including angiograms, to support the development of treatmentplans.

Education and Training:
/n /n
- Stay up todate with the latest advancements in cardiac catheterizationtechniques, equipment, and best practices. /n
- Participate inongoing education, certification programs, and training in areassuch as radiation safety, advanced cardiovascular life support(ACLS), and other relevant certifications. /n
- Educate patientsabout their condition, the procedure they are undergoing, and theimportance of follow-up care. /n
- Assist in training and mentoringnew staff or students in the cath lab environment.

Quality Control and Compliance:
/n /n
- Adhere to all regulatoryguidelines, including HIPAA for patient privacy, OSHA safetystandards, and Joint Commission requirements. /n
- Ensure that allprocedures and documentation meet hospital policies, accreditationstandards, and industry regulations. /n
- Participate in regularperformance audits to ensure the quality and safety of procedures,equipment, and patient care.
