Job DescriptionDescriptionA Clinical Support Tech I (CST I) isneeded in the Cardiology and Oncology Stepdown Unit. The CST I is adual role of a Nursing Assistant I and Health Unit Coordinator. TheCardiology and Oncology Stepdown Unit (COSU) unit is a 13-bedintermediate care unit that provides an inclusive atmosphere forprofessional growth and compassionate care. Summary:
Responsible for assisting theprofessional caregiver in the delivery of patient care,transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintainingpatient rooms and performing a wide range of clerical,transcription, and maintenance of the patient care unit desk areafunctions.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well asprocurement of equipment and supplies.2. Critically reviews patientcare documentation making note of any significant changes in thepatient’s condition and make an immediate report to a registerednurse or physician.3. Provides a variety of clerical tasks toinclude but not limited to organizing and prioritizing workload,greeting and directing visitors, researching information asrequested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic andclarity, revising orders as requested by the nurse, answering thetelephone/ patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, andmaintaining medical records. Performs routine quality assuranceaudits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies. Providesadministrative and clerical support including PI audits and dataentry.4. Provides clinical support assistance to include, but notlimited to, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment,troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changinglinens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies,transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in theorientation of new employees and students.5. Provides directpersonal care to patients as outlined in plan of care activitiessuch as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting with ambulation.
Measures and records vital signs, and patient height and weight.
May be responsible for specimen collection, skin preps/scrubs,catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care,range of motion exercises, and/or postural drainage.6. Reinforcesroutine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse orphysician and document patient understanding of instructions.
Distributes patient education materials at the request of patientsand/or health care providers
