Job Description Description Nursing Assistant II + Clerical (Clinical Support TechII) needed for our Cardiology and Oncology Stepdown UnitTheCardiology and Oncology Stepdown Unit (COSU) unit is a 13-bedintermediate care unit that provides an inclusive atmosphere forprofessional growth and compassionate care. TEAMfacilitates admissions, treatments, transfers, and discharges ofpatients 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. This is a 36 hours per week position; working 12 hour rotatingshifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am) with weekend and holidayrotation. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit packageincluding PTO hours, which are accrued based on the number ofworked hours. This position requires the ability to attend therequired week long hospital orientation offered every twoweeks. Summary:
The Clinical Support Technician II is responsible for assisting theprofessional caregiver in the delivery of patient care,transporting patient and / or equipment, setting up and maintainingpatient rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical,transcription, and maintenance of the patient care unit desk areafunctions. Performs patient care requiring clinical and proceduralknowledge and skills requiring the use of sterile techniques,infusion monitoring, and medical equipment. Coordinates the flow ofcommunications on the patient care unit. The Clinical SupportTechnician II may or may not be given a defined patient careassignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager /charge nurse. Tracks supply inventory, orders supplies and specialitems. Assists unit with clerical and administrative supportincluding PI audits and data entry.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist physicians and other health care providers with routineexaminations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipmentand supplies. 2. Critically review patient care documentation making note of anysignificant changes in the patient’s condition and make animmediate report to a registered nurse or physician. 3. Provide a variety of clerical tasks to include but not limitedto organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directingvisitors, researching information as requested by nurses andphysicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising ordersas requested by the nurse, answering the telephone/ patient calllights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medicalrecords. Perform routine quality assurance audits, safety checks,and inventory of supplies. 4. Provide administrative and clerical support including PI auditsand data entry 5. Provide clinical support assistance to include, but not limitedto, cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment,troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changinglinens, checking supply inventory, re-stocking supplies,transporting patients/ supplies/ specimens, and assisting in theorientation of new employees and students. 6. Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in plan ofcare activities such as bathing, dressing, feeding, assisting withambulation. Measure and record vital signs, and patient height andweight. May be responsible for specimen collection, skinpreps/scrubs, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simplewound care, range of motion exercises, and/or postural drainage.
Performs Oxygen room set-up and monitors oxygen flow-rate, performsoropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal suctioning, tracheostomy care,fecal impaction removal, sterile dressing change wound irrigation,IV fluid assembly and monitoring, IV site care and discontinueperipheral IV, ostomy irrigation and care, urinary catheterizationand irrigation, performs established oral, nasogastric, gastrostomytube feeding 7. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registerednurse or physician and document patient understanding ofinstructions. Education Requirements:
- High School diploma or
GED Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Listed as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board ofNursing.
- Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Departmentof Health and Human Services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providercertification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
- One (1) year of clerical or customer service experience and six(6) months of related nursing assistant experience, which mayinclude a nursing assistant course or an equivalent combination ofeducation, training and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
- Must be fluent in verbal and written English language.
Capabilityto develop computer skills if not competent.
