SUMMARY:
As an OR SurgicalTech, you are crucial in the efficiency and overall success ofoperations. You will assist the surgical team by acting as theprimary scrub tech who handles the instruments, supplies andequipment during surgical procedures, ensuring sterilization atevery point of the process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must maintain atleast 15 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) per year.
- Checks supplies, instrumentation, and equipment needed for surgicalprocedures and ensures proper operation.
- Provide a sterile fieldfor surgical procedures. Ensures that the members of the surgicalteam are properly attired and assists the surgeon with draping thepatient to isolate the operative site.
- Assists in the maintenanceof the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniquesand informing the surgeon/surgical team of infractions.
- Passesinstruments and supplies to the surgeon.
- Counts sponges andsharps with the RN prior to the surgery and before the incision isclosed.
- Prepares the sterile dressing for the patient’s incision
- Stocks rooms, may handle meds, sharps and syringes on the ORfield
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed a military surgicaltechnology program
- OR•Certified Surgical Technologistcertification through National Board of Surgical Technology andSurgical Assisting (NBSTS) and degree in Surgical Technologyrequired•OR•Grand-Fathering Clause•Provide evidence he or shewas employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facilityfor a cumulative period of one year, occurring between 12/31/10•12/31/14.
- OR•Hard to Fill Clause•A health care facility mayemploy or otherwise contract with a person who does not meet therequirements of the function of a surgical technologist if they areunable to employ or contract a sufficient number of qualifiedsurgical technologists.
- Certified Surgical Technologistcertification through National Board of Surgical Technology andSurgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within 24 months afteremployment and degree from accredited program required.
- SurgicalTechnologist Certification is not required for Licensed PracticalNurses (LPN) with current licensure in the State of New York
