The Advanced Cardiac Device Specialist will perform all duties related to the device clinic independently throughout all SLCA office locations. This includes direct patient care, in office device interrogations, including necessary reprogramming and remote device monitoring.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology as it pertains to electrophysiology and patient care. Demonstrates advanced and in-depth knowledge/understanding of device technology including the operation and specifications of existing and new devices and programmers from each manufacturer and management of recalls/alerts of devices and leads. Ability to independently analyze device function, including review of device parameters, testing of sensing/capture thresholds for each lead, assessing lead integrity and battery status. Independently program device based on findings of above. Follows and helps to develop algorithm-driven protocols to ensure appropriate device programming as well as appropriate device follow up. Develop a standard operations procedure manual that can be used by all device clinic staff. Performs full interrogations and makes necessary programming changes to all implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, defibrillators, biventricular devices, and loop recorders from all utilized cardiac device manufacturers. Interprets device data and reports all pertinent clinical or device-related findings to the physicians. This includes but is not limited to arrhythmia episodes, correlating these episodes with symptoms, lead functionality, and battery life. Assesses the site of newly implanted devices, removes staples as necessary, and triages any potential complications. Accurately and thoroughly documents all newly implanted devices and all device interrogations throughout the St. Luke’s Health Network in Optima. Educates patients regarding appropriate follow up schedules, remote monitoring, and general device information. Triages patient phone calls to the device clinic. Reviews interrogations performed by industry representatives for accuracy and device clinic standards, make corrections to documentation if needed and follow protocol in regards to reprogramming of device if needed. Document all finding, and/or changes made to device in the patient electronic medical record as well as in Optima.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

Sitting up to 7 hours per day. Walking and/or standing up to 7 hours per day. Standing in 15 minute increments and walking up to 2 hour increments. Frequent use of hands/fingers to operate equipment, apply electrodes and enter data on keyboard. Frequent use of upper extremities to reposition and transport patients and to lift supplies/equipment including device programmers up to 35 pounds. May need to push equipment for studies up to approximately 70 pounds. Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, twisting, reaching overhead for filing and reaching electrical outlets and/or phone jacks. Driving in between SLCA locations to perform in office interrogations, up to 90 minutes at a time. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, far vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and visual monotony with scanning.

EDUCATION

High school graduate. Certified by nationally recognized cardiology/electrophysiology organization preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

At least 5 years of experience working with devices in a Cardiology or Electrophysiology setting (lab or office), or employed as an industry representative for at least 5 years. Demonstrate knowledge of advanced cardiac dysrhythmias and their interactions with implanted cardiac devices. Successfully pass the Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician Exam through Cardiovascular Credentialing International within one year of hire date.
