Primary Duties:
Administers contrast media into the coronaryarteries as directed by a Cardiologist during a cardiaccatheterization procedure. Recognizes the effect of pathology andvital signs to determine the amount of pressure of each handinjection.
Applies knowledge of the normal physiologic andelectrocardiographic sequences of cardiac contraction andrecognizes both minor and dangerous arrhythmia. Providesappropriate patient care as required. Functions as a firstassistant to the physician by scrubbing independently and aiding inthe manipulation and placement of guide wires and catheters.
Administers contrast media in accordance with physicianinstruction. Schedules and maintains orderly patient flowMaintainsadequate basic interventional and cardiac supplies, all appropriatepatient records and department check sheets. Orders supplies fromoutside vendors in hospital purchasing system. Assists supervisorwith all aspects of inventory control. Correctly enters patient andsupply information into the RIS and/or hospital computersystem.
Performs hemodynamic physiologic patient monitoring,recording calculations of cardiovascular procedures, angiographic,therapeutic, and interventional imaging procedures. Performselectrophysiology and ablation procedures. Provides quality patientcare and monitoring during all phases of the procedure inaccordance with physician instructions and established policy. Hasknowledge of all equipment, inventory, and location of supplies.
Operates emergency equipment safely. Responds to on-callemergencies in accordance with department policy.
Responsible forpre-procedural duties such as sterile tray preparation, proceduralpatient education, and confirmation of required lab work andpatient medical history, including indications for the study andall previous related exams; as well as post-procedural dutiesincluding observation and management of catheter and/or deviceinsertion site and patient discharge instructions. Provides patienttransportation and communicates patient care status to thereceiving care unit. Safely operates all imaging equipment (forexample, digital equipment, pressure injectors, processors, rapidfilm changer, and cine) to produce high-quality diagnostic imagesin accordance with departmental policy.
Qualifications:
Satisfactorycompletion of an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology of atleast 2 years duration.2 years’ experience in diagnosticradiology.
Experience in interventional radiology/cardiaccatheterization or equivalent.
American Registry of RadiologicTechnology (ARRT) certification or registration.
RadiologyTechnologist license in the State of Maryland.
Advanced Cardiac LifeSupport (ACLS) certification or eligibility.
