PURPOSE OF POSITION

Improved documentation serves to improve the quality of care to the patient and enhance the DRG assignment, ultimately impacting reimbursement.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Generate minimum of 8 complaint queries and send to providers daily to clarify Diagnoses. Reconcile DRG with the Coders to avoid mismatches daily. Review Denials as assign.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Apply knowledge of

ICD-10 CM & PCS

coding guidelines to identify Principal and Secondary Diagnoses & compute working DRGs; Identifying CCs and MCCs.
2. Apply knowledge of payer requirement for appropriate DRG assignments such as CMS, APR, etc.
3. Develop and send written and / or verbal queries to providers for their response.
4. Identify opportunities for documentation improvement to ensure appropriate ICD-10 code assignment.
5. Communicate with the coders/ Validators to resolve discrepancies between working and final DRG.
6. Collaborate with physician champions to promote clinical documentation improvement among peers.
7. Track and Monitor Initial reviews, queries and provider responses and ensure timely and optimal results.
8. Formulate queries to seek clarification on conflicting documentation.
9. Generate reports to monitor CDI process including productivity and provider response
10.Other duties assigned by the Director or lead CDIs. Minimum Qualifications 1.Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse(RN) issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and Bachelor of Science inNursing degree from an accredited college or university; and four (4) years of acute care experience;or
2.Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) issuedby the NYSED; and two (2) years of experience, as described in “1” above; or
3.Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Physician Assistant (PA)issued by the NYSED; and two (2) years of experience, as described in “1” above; or
4.Foreign Medical Graduate; and, two (2) years of medical records review or utilization and case management experience; or
