JOB SUMMARY:

The EHR Technician is responsible for maintaining, organizing, and managing electronic health records systems to ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and security of patient data. This role supports clinical and administrative staff by managing health information systems, troubleshooting EHR issues, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and data privacy standards.

JOB DUTIES

• Maintain and update electronic health records systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
• Monitor, analyze, and resolve EHR system errors or issues in collaboration with IT support.
• Train staff on the use of EHR software and support ongoing user education and troubleshooting.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and internal privacy policies.
• Coordinate with clinical teams to ensure timely documentation and data entry.
• Generate and distribute reports from EHR systems for clinical, operational, and quality improvement purposes.
• Participate in EHR upgrades, testing, and implementation of new features or modules.
• Support audits and quality assurance initiatives by ensuring proper documentation and data standards.
• Maintain knowledge of industry best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging EHR technologies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Certification in EHR systems (eCW, Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Athena) is a plus.
• 2-5 years of experience working with EHR systems in a healthcare setting.
• Strong understanding of healthcare terminology, medical records, and HIPAA regulations.
• Excellent computer skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with clinical workflows and user support.
• Familiarity with data analytics and reporting tools.
• Project management experience is a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

All work is performed within a standard health care/primary care clinical setting.
