Job Summary The Manager, Lab is responsible for overseeing the administrative, fiscal, and technical operations of the clinical laboratory to ensure efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care. This role involves planning, organizing, and evaluating laboratory functions while managing personnel, budgets, and resources. The Manager serves as a technical supervisor for on-site and off-site clinical laboratory functions, ensuring adherence to corporate policies and regulatory standards. Essential Functions Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of the clinical laboratory, ensuring coordination with other hospital departments to support efficient operations and quality patient care. Hires, trains, evaluates, and develops laboratory personnel while ensuring staff competencies are assessed on an ongoing basis. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, including CAP, CLIA, JCAHO, and other relevant standards, maintaining proper documentation and readiness for inspections. Establishes, reviews, and updates department policies, procedures, and job descriptions to align with organizational and regulatory requirements. Manages the department budget, demonstrating fiscal accountability and achieving outcomes within allocated resources. Collaborates with other hospital departments to resolve issues that impact patient care delivery or organizational objectives. Delegates tasks appropriately while maintaining accountability for departmental operations and outcomes. Actively engages in quality assurance and safety initiatives within the department, addressing issues promptly to maintain high standards. Utilizes hospital-wide and department-specific computer software and technology to streamline laboratory processes and improve efficiency. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Associate Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution; or a passing score on the Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency Examination approved by HHS (HEW); or prior employment as a laboratory supervisor in a hospital licensed by the Department of Health before January 1, 1995 required or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field required 5-7 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting required 2-4 years of supervisory or management experience in a laboratory environment preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, testing procedures, and regulatory standards. Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Proficiency in budgeting, resource allocation, and fiscal management. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address complex issues effectively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and staff.
