Full Job Description Position Overview:

The primary function of the Laboratory Manager is the day to day management of the laboratory personnel, the facilities, compliance needs, customer service and efficiency in the acceptance of non-hazardess liquid waste streams. The Laboratory Manager is the gate keeper for the plant activities. He/she directs the intake of waste streams by performing finger print analysis and other instrumentation to determine approval of waste disposal in accordance with the waste treatment facility permit and all regulations in a timely manner.

Essential Functions:

Operate the laboratory safely and in compliance with local, state and federal regulations at all times Knowledgeable in all EPA approved test methods Able to work with local regulatory agencies and their labs to set up sample and test procedures that meet local regulatory requirements Perform wet bench chemistry to assess waste prior to treatment by facility Operates Flash Point Tester, Hach DR2004 Spectrophotometer and Chemical Oxygen Demand Test on oncoming waste streams, ICP Metal Testing (Instrumentation subject to change as needed) Ensure compliance with Waste Acceptance Plan and Lab Standard Operating Procedures. Assist other lab personnel in entering work order into waste tracking system prior to billing Communicate with customers and brokers as needed. Provide assistance with customer profiles (when necessary) Is responsible for accruals and accounting for all expenses within the month incurred. Manage all Cap Ex projects at the plant, keep records and insure projects are on budget Conducts regular dialog with regulators to ensure all requirements of compliance are being met or exceeded. Order all PPE and Supplies for the Laboratory Coordinates with other Liquid Environmental Solutions departments Monitors and reports laboratory conditions to the Division Manager Completes all documents and reports as required Ensures all probes and measurement devices are properly calibrated in plant and lab Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports. Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, vendors and others in a courteous and professional manner. Analyzes and tests batch treated waste streams. Provides chemical treatment direction and directs plant operators before, during and after treatment process. Ensures that all shifts are staffed properly to ensure laboratory coverage. This includes the ability to work different shifts as needed. Accompanies sales or division manager to customer locations in order to provide direction on acceptance of waste streams. Communicates up charges directly with customers (when appropriate) Responsible for ensuring COD customers are charged appropriately prior to waste offload and disposal Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Required Education, Employment Experience and Skills (Must Haves):

Education:
  • Batchelor of Science degree in Biology/Chemistry
  • Waste Stream or Waste Water training
Employment Experience and Skills:
  • Three years management experience in a laboratory performing similar functions
  • Experience managing employees
  • Budgetary, profit & loss responsibility
  • Microsoft Office Suite of products including Word, Excel
  • Experience with Access, PowerPoint and Outlook a plus.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
Working Environment:
  • Periods of working in hot or cold weather
  • Ability to work with strong odors
  • Some light lifting and bending
  • Some climbing
