Facility has first considerion. Videos Duties The Orlando VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced Supervisory Clinical Laborory Scientist (CLS). The Supervisory CLS is responsible for the technical, professional, and administrive oversight of operions, as well as for maintaining effective interdepartmental relions within the Clinical Laborory Hemology Section the main Hospital Medical Center Facility. The Supervisory Clinical Laborory Scientist (CLS) has full supervisory responsibility in a laborory complex level index group 1a based on the Hospital Complexity Level as designed in Office of Productivity, Efficiency, and Staffing (OPES) VHA Facility Complexity Model History the Orlando VA Healthcare System. The laborory performs over one million standard billable tests annually (reported to the Laborory Management Index Program). The Supervisory Clinical Laborory Scientist serves as Hemology Technical Supervisor for the Laborory section of Phology and Laborory Medicine Service (PLMS), reporting to the Supervisory CLS Laborory Manager. The candide must have prior recent experience in a busy hemology, coagulion, special coagulion, and flow cytometry laborory with quality assurance experience.
Some assigned duties are:
Supervising a large staff non-supervisory personnel including least one GS-12 subordine. Oversees day to day operions of highly complex test performance of more than one laborory specialty such as but not limited to Immunology, Hemology, Coagulion, Urinalysis, Body Fluids, and Flow Cytometry. Serves as the technical expert, prepares schedules and laborory Process Improvement (PI) programs, and assures corrective action is initied and completed, as needed. Coordines laborory procedures in other departments (intra/inter facility). Plans and schedules on-going work and huddles; defines bench assignments for optimum efficiency and workflow. Assures all procedure manuals remain up to de, monitors/forecast inventory levels, ordering supplies and follow up standing orders. Prepares administrive reports, manages fiscal mters, budget, and contracting and property management. Adjusts staffing levels or work procedures to accommode resource allocion decisions made the executive level. or as needed Recommends appointment, plans and assigns work, gives advice and counsel, and evalues work of subordines. Provides the full range of supervisory duties which would include the following work: interviewing, hiring, training, competency assessment and creion, performance evaluions, continuing educion, recommendions of awards, advancements, planning and assigning work as needed, conflict resolution, retraining, when necessary, reeducion and/or disciplinary actions. Work Schedule :

Pay:

The CLS plans and assigns work based on priorities, requirements of assignments, and abilities of employees; provides advice and counsel; and evalues work of subordines. The supervisor ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and regulory requirements and establishes and monitors the quality of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes, initiing corrective actions as needed as part of the overall laborory quality management program. The supervisory CLS plans and executes performance and quality improvement projects. The supervisory CLS verifies oriention, training, and competency assessment of assigned staff and develops and updes technical policies and procedure manuals. The supervisory CLS ensures all staff and affilie staff comply with accrediting and reguling bodies. The supervisory CLS adjusts staffing levels or work procedures to accommode resource allocion decisions made the executive level. This individual manages document control, develops performance standards, position descriptions, and functional stements and is responsible for technical and administrive management of an assigned area including budget execution. The supervisory CLS interacts with administrive and clinical onsite personnel and exercises significant independent decision-making authority. Preferred Experience:
Prior supervisory experience and/or 4+ years of full-time experience working in the clinical laborory specialties of hemology, coagulion, body fluids, immunology, and flow cytometry. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.
Physical Requirements:
May require standing, lifting, carrying, sitting, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. May be required to wear personal protective equipment and undergo annual TB screening or testing as conditions of employment. Must be able to perform modere lifting of 15-50 pounds, straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers and both hands, walking 4-8 hours, standing 4-8 hours, kneeling, repeed bending, and use of both arms and legs.
