Job Description

Supervisor, Histology Lab

Durham, NC Company Overview:

With the advent of genomic sequencing, we can finally decode and process our genetic makeup. We now have more data than ever before, but providers don’t have the infrastructure or expertise to make sense of this data. Key Responsibilities:

Daily operational management of the Histology laboratory, including staff scheduling, workflow prioritization, quality and compliance oversight, and managing needs of a growing lab.
Hiring, training, annual reviews, recognition, coaching, and corrective action for histology team members. Serve as a technical resource and participate on cross-functional teams to coordinate troubleshooting, develop process improvements, and to implement new workflows and products.
Assist in the development and execution of training, orientation, and competency efforts to histology staff.
Audit LIMS reports daily to ensure all samples are processed in appropriate time frames and with a high degree of accuracy.
Equipment operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and appropriate documentation of maintenance activities.
Maintain, periodically review, and sign Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Identify and document occurrences that deviate from defined procedures.
Investigate and resolve all incident reports. Ensure inventory is appropriately stocked and organized. Maintain clinical skills and competencies to assist in the histology and immunohistochemistry workflows as needed.
Optimize and validate new antibodies or the immunohistochemistry staining platforms.
Other duties pertaining to histology and laboratory operations as assigned.

Qualifications:
Required:

American Society for Clinical Pathology Histotechnician HT(ASCP) or Histotechnologist HTL(ASCP) Certification
At least 5 years experience in the field including: cutting (fresh and fixed samples), staining (H&E and IHC), processing, embedding, and immunohistochemistry validation
Completed a college degree with at least 60 total semester hours 12 coming from biology and chemistry
Excellent communication skills
Thrives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work with others to plan and carry out daily tasks
Self-driven and works well in an interdisciplinary team with minimal direction
Impeccable attention to detail
Strong problem solving skills including the ability to focus on a problem, using technical knowledge and company policies to arrive at a timely solution
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical individuals
Ability to handle continual change and potentially stressful situations

Preferred:

4-year college degree, preferably in Biological Sciences or similar
3+ years successfully leading people in a clinical laboratory environment
Experience with validating immunohistochemistry protocols
Work in a

CLIA/CAP

high-complexity laboratory
Experience writing, revising, and evaluating standard operating procedures
Knowledge of troubleshooting all laboratory equipment
Knowledge of LIMS platforms and various computer systems
