The Lab Manager will oversee daily laboratory operations, handle critical administrative and organizational tasks, and actively participate in research focused on human blood stem cells and leukemia biology .
Key responsibilities include:
Overseeing the development and implementation of research protocols. Conducting and assisting with mouse model experiments. Managing and maintaining core laboratory equipment, including the lab’s flow cytometer (BD FACSMelody), tissue culture incubators, and biosafety cabinets. Coordinating laboratory ordering, inventory management, and supply logistics. Overseeing financial expenditures across laboratory grants. Training lab members in experimental techniques and ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance. Collaborating with Mount Sinai’s facilities management and external vendors to streamline laboratory operations and manage equipment maintenance contracts. The Wagenblast Lab aims to understand how normal human blood stem cells become cancerous. Using advanced genome engineering techniques in primary human blood stem cells, we model the initiation and progression of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Our objective is to identify genetic, cellular, and developmental mechanisms underlying childhood leukemia and discover therapeutic vulnerabilities to improve treatments. Recent relevant publications include Wang et al. (2025) and Quijada-Álamo et al. (2025). The lab is well-funded through federal and foundation grants, providing a stimulating and dynamic research environment dedicated to combating childhood cancer.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience following completion of an undergraduate degree. Practical experience with murine experimental models, tissue culture, and molecular biology techniques. Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, demonstrate leadership, and collaborate effectively within a research team.
