Director of Scientific Services – 6 month assignment Position Available In Davidson, Tennessee

Job Description:

We are seeking an accomplished Scientific Services Director tolead our Laboratory Services team on a temporary 6-monthassignment. In this senior leadership position, you will shape thestrategic direction, drive operational excellence, and fosterinnovation across our laboratory services. With oversight offacilities supporting approximately 1,000 scientists, you’ll governa significant delivery organization of outsourced staff on-site.

This pivotal role requires adept management of laboratoryinfrastructure, processes, and services to support Scientificservices cutting-edge research and development objectives. As a keymember of the Scientific services Leadership Team, you’llcontribute to establishing a world-class Facilities Managementservice at our Gothenburg site.

KeyResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:

Develop and implement a forward-thinking strategy forlaboratory services and aligned with AstraZeneca’s R D andinnovation goals. Ensure lab services meet business objectives, scientificpriorities, and compliance standards. Champion the integration of new technologies to elevate labefficiency, scalability, and sustainability. Enhance FM performance by collaborating with the siteManagement Team and stakeholders in the sciencecommunity.

Operational Excellence:

Ensure the meticulous planning, execution, and improvement oflab services for timely and efficient delivery, upholding topquality standards. Maintain laboratory compliance with regulatory, safety, andenvironmental standards.

Team Leadership and Development:

Build, inspire, and mentor a high-performing lab services teamwithin AstraZeneca and its supplier ecosystem. Cultivate a collaborative, innovative, and accountable workculture. Promote talent development to elevate team members’ technicaland leadership skills.

Stakeholder Engagement:

Partner with cross-functional teams-Quality Assurance,Facilities, IT-to align lab services with internal needs. Serve as the main point of contact for lab-related services,effectively addressing collaborator concerns. Collaborate with external partners to streamline lab operationsand implement advanced solutions.

Financial and Resource Management:

Develop and supervise the lab services budget, optimizing costswithout compromising quality or safety. Allocate and apply resources efficiently to improve efficiencyacross laboratory facilities. Identify and secure funding for new initiatives, improvements,or expansions in lab capabilities.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure all lab operations conform to regulatory, safety, andethical standards including GxP, ISO, and local regulations. Implement risk mitigation strategies for potential operationalchallenges. Conduct audits and reviews to maintain compliance and identifyareas for improvement.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Minimum of 5 years experience in laboratory operations,scientific services, or a related area, preferably withinpharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or life sciences. University Degree. Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams insophisticated lab environments. Expertise in laboratory technologies, automation, and digitaltools management. Strong background in regulatory compliance and qualitymanagement systems.
