We will hire our clinical laboratory testing personnel in twodifferent job titles, based on educational background: Medical Technologist Med Lab Technician A caregiver in this position works nights, 9 :00 p m – 7 :30 am. A caregiver who excels in this role, will: Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling andprocessing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records ofpatient test results. Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains tospecific job duties. Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documentall quality control activities, instrument and proceduralcalibrations and maintenance performed. Assume responsibility for and take action regarding any qualitycontrol or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific jobduties. Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance withmanufacturer’s specifications. Assume responsibility for good documentation practices andmaintain clear and legible records. Perform proficiency testing in compliance with ClinicalLaboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations i.e. analyzeproficiency survey sample in the same manner as a patient specimens, no communication with other CLIA laboratories, complete recordretention and accurate documentation and result reporting. Assume responsibility for participation in continuingeducation, professional development and required annual competencyassessment. Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedureswhenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s establishedacceptable levels of performance. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance orreporting of test results and either must correct the problems orimmediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor,Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director. May function as an educator and provides instruction andtraining in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and theapplication of laboratory test protocols to students, employees,residents, etc. Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: Associate ‘s D egree in a L aboratory S cience or M edical Laboratory T echnology from an accredited institutio n OR meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testingpersonnel grandfathering clauses Education outside of the United States requiresdiploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreignequivalency from an HHS approved agency or nationally recognizedorganization such as NACES (National Association CredentialEvaluation Services, Inc.) or AICE (Association of InternationalCredential Evaluators, Inc.) Physical Requirements:
This position involves turning, stooping, bending, stretching,walking and standing. The average amount of lifting is 10 pounds with occasionalcarrying of objects up to 20 pounds. Sitting for short periods of time, the ability to file, moverecords, laboratory supplies, and equipment are also requiredphysical duties. Communication by means of the spoken, written and typed word isrequired. Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination tooperate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
Mental Demands:
Ability to work at a fast pace and toprioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerousrequests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to workcollaboratively with department director, physicians and othermembers of the healthcare team; ability to ensure operationalefficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability toexercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing withmultiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiplecustomers.
Special Demands:
Use of personal protective equipment isrequired as there is a potential for exposure to biohazardous orinfectious agents when drawing and processing specimens.
Confidentiality:
The employee has access to the entire medicalrecord for the purpose of charting and correcting laboratoryresults AND review of physician orders. The access is limited to the amount reasonably necessary toachieve the purpose of the laboratory testing request. The disclosure or requests that occur on a routine or recurringbasis include patient demographics, condition and laboratoryresults.
