TITLE:
- Medical Technologist, Blood Bank Dpt. (multiple openings)

DUTIES:
- Perform various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, study and treatment, or prevention of disease.
Uphold the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes. May perform tests including but not limited to standardized and semi-routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests in a research or clinical laboratory. Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and calibrate equipment and instruments as required. Operate laboratory equipment and troubleshoot equipment and instrument malfunctions. May serve as key operator for implementation of new equipment and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related field of study and three (3) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or related role where required experience gained.

SPECIAL SKILLS
- Also requires experience in the following
- Certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Association of Bioanalysts (ABB), or another agency approved by the GA Department of Community Health, generalist or categorical if applicable
- Three (3) years of blood bank experience to include independently completing routine and complex antibody workups in a high-volume setting, performing antigen typing, serologic crossmatches, elutions, component preparation, and equipment maintenance
- Working independently, problem-solving, and serving as a resource for new hires
- Three (3) years with massive transfusion protocols
- Three (3) years with gel technology in a transfusion medicine setting
- Three (3) years with irradiating blood products
- Monitoring and ensuring adequate inventory supply; including blood and blood products. Communicating blood supply shortages to supervisor and medical staff, experience triaging orders, contacting alternate suppliers, communicating with clinicians regarding delays in filling blood product orders
- Gathering data to monitor quality improvement standards and in preparing reports; Experience documenting deviations from policy and procedures; documenting supplier concerns
- Maintaining accurate and complete documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations; Experience performing instrument maintenance, troubleshooting as indicated, communicating with vendors regarding out-of-service equipment, and performing alternative testing methods
- Documenting corrective actions taken for out of range test values; and recognizing instrument performance issues, prioritizing testing needs and performing alternative testing methods, contacting vendor for service and taking instruments out of service; and
- Compiling and evaluating data and performing statistical analyses.
