Required Qualifications:
One year of recent experience as a Medical LaboratoryTechnician Valid license when needed in compliance with any stateregulations
Preferred Qualifications:
National certification through ASCP or equivalent such as
AMT,AAB, HEW
certifications Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC) Other certifications or licenses may be required for thisposition
Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician assists inperforming routine and moderately complex laboratory tests acrossmultiple diagnostic areas, including chemistry, hematology,microbiology, immunology, and toxicology. This role involvesanalyzing body fluids and specimens, ensuring the accuracy of testresults, and maintaining laboratory equipment.
Essential WorkFunctions:
Perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests in areas such aschemistry, hematology, and immunology Prepare and process specimens for analysis, ensuring accuratelabeling and handling Ensure accuracy and reliability of test results by followingquality control protocols Follow standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines(AABB, CAP, FDA, CLIA) Support the investigation of transfusion reactions bycollecting and preparing necessary samples Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, performingtroubleshooting within scope Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and escalate issues asneeded Communicate test results clearly and professionally to otherhealthcare professionals Follow laboratory safety guidelines, infection controlprotocols, and hospital procedures Maintain detailed and accurate records of test results,calibrations, and quality control measures Assist with inventory management, reagent preparation, andstocking lab supplies Perform other duties as assigned within the scope ofpractice Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection controlguidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonalcommunication skills The ability to read, write, & communicate in the Englishlanguage is required Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbalinstructions, and proficiency in PC skills Physical Abilities
- Remain in a stationary position, moveabout, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending Interpersonal Skills
- To work effectively with a variety ofpersonnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positiveattitude and professionalism Technical/Motor Skills
- Ability to grasp, fine manipulation,pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting withprocedures and/or using department equipment. Mental Requirements
- Must be able to cope with frequentcontact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlinesunder pressure. Must be able to work under close supervisionoccasionally as well as working without assistance from otherpersonnel.
