Job Description MinimumQualificationsEducation:
Bachelor’s degree in a Biological Sciencerequired (equivalency required for foreign education); (incumbentshired into this job prior to 7/1/2019 Bachelor’s is not required).
Licenses/Certifications:
Medical Technologist (ASCP) or MedicalTechnologist (AMT), Certified CLS (ASCP), or Certified MLS (ASCP orASCP-International) CM, or Cytotechnologist CT (ASCP).Experience /Knowledge /
Skills:
Two (2) years of pertinent experience in a high complexitylaboratory in the assigned/specified area; completion of SeniorMedical Technologist skills competency within one year of acceptingthis position.
Principal Accountabilities Performs and documents test results, quality control,maintenance procedures according to technical policy/procedure;troubleshoots instruments as needed. Oversees and evaluates the performance of testing, qualitycontrol, maintenance, and procedures for assigned area. Preparesmonthly quality summary reports documenting the performance ofinstruments, quality control, linearity, service visits, andclinical service issues. Coordinates service visits. Evaluates and maintains technical procedures as appropriate tothe department/facility; in area assigned, meets/exceeds competencyrequirements for all workstations; writes procedures; exhibitsworking knowledge of laboratory equipment and laboratoryinformation systems. Ensures compliance of regulatory standards associated with thefollowing governing and accrediting agencies including TJC, FDA,CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA and CLIA. Is knowledgeable of the regulatorystandards and compliance thereof. Participates in CAP mockinspections and off-site system inspections. Teaches, assesses competency, mentors and/or preceptors toother laboratory employees and students in the areas of technicalprocedures and policies, quality control, maintenance procedures,performance improvement, production efficiency, and customerservice. Provides input into Medical Technologists initial, six (6)month, and annual training, performance appraisals, and annualcompetency. Coaches and provides input to Lab Director or Managerfor counseling sessions associated with performance, error reports,and employee recognition program. Demonstrates leadership and performs duties in a manner topromote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction,while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PIprocess. May take part in the interview process of jobapplicants. Supports intradepartmental cohesiveness; practices teamwork,acknowledges and appreciates other employees’ strengths,communicates effectively with laboratory staff, MLS, and LaboratoryDirector, provides and asks for feedback, accurately documents andreports issues, observations and solutions for the LaboratoryDirector or Manager. Interacts with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians andpatients regarding to specimens and orders coming into thelaboratory and/or reporting results according to the policies andprocedures of Laboratory Services and with sensitivity to customerneeds. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres toall Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards withinbudgetary specifications including time management, supplymanagement, productivity and quality of service. Promotes individual professional growth and development bymeeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skillscompetency; supports department-based goals which contribute to thesuccess of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor andresource to less experienced staff.
