Summary:
Performs avariety of patient testing and administrative tasks in support ofthe clinical activities in the UNCHCS.This position performsproduct modification such as making syringe aliquots for neonates,deglycerolizing and washing RBC’s. This position irradiates andissues products for transfusion, splits blood products, thawsfrozen products, pools cryoprecipitate, receives products from thesupplier, returns non-transfused products, and transports productsto Carolina Air Care (CAC). This position also performs routinepretransfusion serological tests such as ABO/Rh Grouping, AntibodyDetection and Identification, Crossmatching, and, Phenotyping. Thislab also routinely performs Direct Antiglobulin Tests, and FetalBleed Screening Tests. This position also performs advanced testingand analyses to help in the diagnosis and treatment of certaindiseases. Some examples of these tests include various adsorptions,elutions, titrations, separations and neutralizations•
Responsibilities:
1. Investigates problems with equipment, testresults, specimens, and/or workflow.2. May participate on teams orperform special projects/assignments.3. May perform teaching ofClinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents andtraining of new employees. May serve as a technical resource.4.Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in theappropriate laboratory.5. Performs routine and less standardizedtest procedures which includes special chemical, microscopic andbacteriologic laboratory tests. Observes tests and reactions andprovides data.6. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat,or filters as required.7. Reports results to healthcare providers.
Consults/confers with health care providers regarding testresults.8. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report andtimely correction of errors.
