Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay:

$34.40 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services. This position is located at 4312 District Dr, Raleigh, NC 27607.
This position will be assigned to the Department of Health and Human Services Division PH

  • Epidemiology
  • State Lab & OCME-Molecular Diagnostics and Molecular Epidemiology Unit. This position will focus on validating and implementing CLIA
  • compliant molecular methods for carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriales (CRE), carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA), and carbapenem resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB).

These positions will be performing bacterial culture, DNA extractions,
real-time PCR, and whole genome sequencing (WGS).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

NOTE:

The successful candidate for this position must meet the

CLIA ’88

requirements for testing personnel in a high complexity laboratory. Candidates must attach a copy of their transcripts to the application or provide an unofficial copy of their transcripts at the time of the interview.
Experience working with infectious diseases, and knowledge of the hazards associated with working with potentially infectious materials and the appropriate safety precautions to avoid infections.
Clinical laboratory experience growing and isolating bacteria.
Experience in conducting nucleic acid extraction, performing conventional PCR and real-time PCR, and comprehensive understanding of the best practices used to ensure high quality, accurate and timely molecular test results.

Management Preferences:
  • Certification in molecular biology (ASCP or equivalent preferred).
  • Experience with a laboratory information system (LIMS)
  • Experience performing whole genome sequencing (WGS) on the Illumina MiSeq

Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area; or Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of medical laboratory experience; or Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
