Job Description
Overview Performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems. Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods. Updates knowledge, skills and applies appropriately. Maintains age-specific and other required competencies. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures, instrumentation, etc. May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions

PI, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, computer (LIS, HIS, hospital intranet, PC applications), etc. Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and evaluates their work. Acts as a resource for less experienced co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned. Works both independently and as part of a team with general supervision/periodic review by supervisory staff.
