SUMMARY As a member of theprofessional medical team, accurately performs clinical laboratoryanalyses and examinations by approved department procedures onblood, urine, body fluids and tissues within a published turnaround time using a variety of instruments and methods to assist inphysician diagnosis and treatment. Primarily days; 8 hour shifts

ATTRIBUTES
  • BS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Scienceand/or equivalent relevant experience as recognized by New YorkState Department of Education for licensure as a ClinicalLaboratory Technologist. (NYS Dept of Education, Education Law,Title 8, Article 165, sub-parts 79-15; 9/23/8).
  • Previousexperience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory a benefit, but notrequired.
  • New York State Department of Education License orLimited Permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, required
  • Certification by ASCP preferred, but not required
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Correctly performs testing in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patienthistory, diagnosis and clinical condition in order to explain testresults (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken
  • Communicates stat and critical lab results and prolongedinstrument malfunctions causing delays in test results tophysicians, nursing units and other appropriate medical personnel
  • Performance of QC, routine and advanced maintenance andanalyte/instrument troubleshooting activities.
  • Accuratelyprepares reagents and maintains proper inventory of laboratorysection supplies with appropriate cost containment in mind.
  • Maintains knowledge of required computer functions associated withordering testing, performing testing, resulting testing and callingup various reports to assist in completing testing and themanagement of workflow.
  • Teaches in the School of MedicalTechnology and Lab rotations as called upon to do so.
  • Meets allregulatory lab requirements consistently.
  • Additional duties andresponsibilities as requested by manager.
