Hiring Blood Bank Technologists! Job Description We are seeking a dedicated Blood Bank Technologist to join our team, tasked with performing qualitative and quantitative analysis on specimens received in the laboratory. This role requires a strong understanding of blood bank theory, as well as familiarity with antibodies and reagents. The ideal candidate will hold a NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a valid permit issued by NYSDOE Clinical Laboratory to Technology. ASCP certification is preferred but not required for those with the full New York State MLT license. We welcome newly licensed technologists who have a keen interest in blood banking. Responsibilities Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis on all specimens received in the laboratory for the assigned station. Understand the principles of tests performed and maintain working knowledge of the equipment used. Ensure that all specimens are stored appropriately. Follow all quality control policies and procedures to ensure reliable patient results. Recognize critical or life-threatening results, verify these results, and report them to the appropriate clinician. Document all results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Essential Skills NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or valid permit issued by NYSDOE Clinical Laboratory to Technology. Blood bank experience with an understanding of blood bank theory. Familiarity with antibodies and reagents. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications ASCP certification is preferred. Interest in blood banking and medical technology. Work Environment The position is based in a hospital medical laboratory, working alongside 3-4 technologists on each shift in the blood bank. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, providing an excellent environment for professional growth. The role offers a 10% shift differential for evening shifts. Shift patterns alternate weekly, including day and evening shifts, with holiday and vacation pay benefits.
