Duties & Responsibilities Technologist performs clinical testing in laboratory areas where he/she is fully trained and in compliance with Federal, State and City regulations.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively applies concepts of quality control to produce accurate and valid test results and to continuously improve clinical test performance services
Rotational assignment on the processing table for receiving, accessioning and dispatching of specimens to various laboratories including all reference laboratories.
Provides guidance and technical training to clinical laboratory technician and clinical laboratory technologists (Level I-III) and other appropriate laboratory personnel and assists in the orientation of new staff members to the policies and procedures of the department.
Performs monthly review of quality control documentation (Levey Jennings Charts, peer data…)
Enters and/or validates data from analyses of diagnostic tests and clinical results into LIS.
Operates and maintains manual and automated laboratory/medical instruments to perform qualitative and quantitative analyses and laboratory tests; sets up standard controls and calibrations for equipment and tests as appropriate and required.
Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies.
Participates in internal/external quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities and programs, and departmental and facility-wide training.
Completes work in a timely manner, while maintaining departmental quality performance standards; meets departmental standards of productivity.
Communicates pertinent information to appropriate leadership and communicates any pending issues tooncoming shift and upper managemnent to ensure continuity of work; follows-up on these issues as required.
Handles, stores, and disposes of hazardous/medical waste in accordance with established safety protocols and procedures; reports hazardous chemical spills to appropriate personnel.
Reviews results (manual and electronic) reported by technologist according to Standard Operating Procedure and maintain all supportive documentation.
Completes annual and biannual studies such as linearity and comparison studies and performs data analysis of such studies.
Immediately reports abnormal and/or critical findings and/or results to appropriate floors/units/wards.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist issued by the NYSED; and 2. Candidates must also meet one of the qualification requirements of a laboratory supervisor as outlined in Title 1 0, Section 58-1.4 of the New York Public HeaIth Law.
