  • Medical, dental, vision,hearing benefits SUMMARY Within the scope of practice as a ClinicalLaboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist), and in accordancewith federal and state laws and regulations and accreditationrequirements, perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures,records and controls on tissue, blood, exudates and other bodyfluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology,Coagulation, Clinical Microscopy, Immunology and other tests toobtain data for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease.

Performs phlebotomy as required. Adheres to the professionalstandards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

ATTRIBUTES
  • Required:

    Graduate of an accredited college or university with aBachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry,Biology , related field, or meets the educational requirements ofNYS for licensure.

  • Required:

    Current Clinical LaboratoryTechnologist NYS License or Permit

  • Preferred:

    American Society ofClinical Pathologists Certification.

Preferred:

At least one year(12 months) experience in a hospital laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability ofspecimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to beunusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring that thephysiologic state of the properties is maintained.
  • Performslaboratory procedures on tissue, blood, exudates and other bodyfluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology,Coagulation, Clinical Microscopy, and Immunology in accordance withstate and federal regulations, accreditation standards,professional standards, laboratory procedures and hospitalpolicies.

Participates in proficiency testing and ensures samplesare handled in the same manner as patient samples.

  • Evaluatespatient results to ensure correlation with the patient’s condition,age, sex , diagnosis and other pertinent clinical data.

Issueslaboratory reports and reports results to appropriate individuals.

Maintains continuity, quality and accuracy of documentation toensure results are properly and timely reported.

  • Calibrates,standardizes, adjusts, and maintains instruments.

Verifies correctinstrument operation using established procedures and qualitycontrol checks . Recognizes and reacts to indicators ofmalfunction; locates and implements corrections. Identifies thecause of common problems and makes simple repairs; conducts qualitycontrol procedures on equipment, reagents, and products, andmaintains proper records for quality control reports. Documents allcorrective actions when indicated.

  • Directs and supervises thework of assigned students, phlebotomists, lab assistants andtechnicians.

Reports to Clinical Laboratory Technologist (MedicalTechnologist) II, Operations Manager, Quality and Safety Managerand Administrative Laboratory Director.
