They are expected to utilize complex problem solvingskills in resolving clinical and instrument problems. This positionrequires exercise of independent judgment, theoretical knowledgeand responsibility. They are to follow all regulatory labrequirements. Primarily days; 8 hour shifts

ATTRIBUTES
  • BS inMedical Technology or BS in a related Science and/or equivalentrelevant experience as recognized by New York State Department ofEducation for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. (NYSDept of Education, Education Law, Title 8, Article 165, sub-parts79-15; 9/23/8).
  • Previous experience in a Clinical or PathologyLaboratory a benefit, but not required.
  • New York State Departmentof Education License or Limited Permit as a Clinical LaboratoryTechnologist, required
  • Certification by ASCP preferred, but notrequired
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Correctly performs testing in anaccurate and timely manner.
  • Interprets and correlates clinicaltest results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical conditionin order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so thatappropriate action can be taken.
  • Communicates stat and criticallab results and prolonged instrument malfunctions causing delays intest results to physicians, nursing units and other appropriatemedical personnel.
  • Performance of QC, routine and advancedmaintenance and analyte/instrument troubleshooting activities.
  • Accurately prepares reagents and maintains proper inventory oflaboratory section supplies with appropriate cost containment inmind.
  • Maintains knowledge of required computer functionsassociated with ordering testing, performing testing, resultingtesting and calling up various reports to assist in completingtesting and the management of workflow.
  • Teaches in the School ofMedical Technology and Lab rotations as called upon to do so.
  • Meets all regulatory lab requirements consistently.
  • Additionalduties and responsibilities as requested by manager.
