Schedule:

Rotating 8 hour variable shift: 7-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a, weekendrotation

SUMMARY:

As a member of the professional medical team,accurately performs clinical laboratory analyses and examinationsby approved department procedures on blood, urine, body fluids andtissues within a published turn around time using a variety ofinstruments and methods to assist in physician diagnosis andtreatment. They are expected to utilize complex problem solvingskills in resolving clinical and instrument problems. They are toensure the provision of high quality laboratory/diagnostic servicesto patients and physicians and full compliance with all regulatorystandards. May provide weekend/holiday supervisory coverage asneeded.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Correctly performs testing in anaccurate and timely manner.
  • Interprets and correlates clinicaltest results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical conditionin order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so thatappropriate action can be taken.
  • Communicates stat and criticallab results and prolonged instrument malfunctions causing delays intest results to physicians, nursing units and other appropriatemedical personnel.
  • Performance of QC, routine and advancedmaintenance and analyte/instrument troubleshooting activities.
  • Accurately prepares reagents and maintains proper inventory oflaboratory section supplies with appropriate cost containment inmind.
  • May provide weekend/holiday supervisory oversite as needed
  • Maintains knowledge of required computer functions associatedwith ordering testing, performing testing, resulting testing andcalling up various reports to assist in completing testing and themanagement of workflow.
  • Coordinates and assists in the trainingof new and existing employees on new procedures and instrumentationand acts as a technical consultant to technologists, technicians,and/or students rotating through their area.
  • Teaches in theSchool of Medical Technology and Lab rotations as called upon to doso. Assists in the performance of specialized and complexdiagnostic procedures.
  • May conduct research and development ofnew or updated technologies and provides written evaluation tosupervisor.
  • Additional Duties and Responsibilities as requestedby Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Degree:
  • BS inMedical Technology or BS in Related Science and/or equivalentrelevant experience as recognized by New York State Department ofEducation for licensure as a
Clinical Laboratory TechnologistRequired Certification/Licensure:
  • New York State Department ofEducation License or Limited Permit as a Clinical LaboratoryTechnologist.
  • If travel is required, must have a valid NYSdriver’s license as defined by the
RGHS Motor Vehicle andAuthorized Drivers Policy Required Years of Experience:
  • 4 yearsof relevant Medical Technology Laboratory
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Previous experience in a Clinical or Pathology Laboratory abenefit, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a laboratorysupervisory or leadership position
