ATTRIBUTES

• Required:

  Six (6) or moreyears of experience as a medical technologist

• Preferred:

  Previousexperience in a laboratory supervisory or leadership position

• Ability to work independently and on a team
• Excellentcommunication and interpersonal skills

• Required:

  BS in MedicalTechnology or BS in a related Science (Biology, Chemistry, or ThePhysical Sciences) and/or equivalent relevant experience asrecognized by New York State Department of Education for licensureas a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. (NYS Dept of Education,Education Law, Title 8, Article 165, sub-parts 79-15; 9/23/8).

• Preferred:

  Previous experience in a laboratory supervisory orleadership position

• Required:

  New York State Department ofEducation License or Limited Permit as a Clinical LaboratoryTechnologist.

• Preferred:

  Certification by American Society forClinical Pathology (ASCP)

• Must meet New York State Department ofHealth CLEP requirements as a laboratory supervisor forweekend/holiday coverage as required.
• If travel is required, musthave a valid NYS driver’s license as defined by the RGHS MotorVehicle and Authorized Drivers Policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• LabManagement.

Perform specialized and complex diagnostic procedures;accurately prepare reagents and maintain proper inventory oflaboratory section supplies; interpret and correlate clinical testresults with patient history, diagnosis and clinical condition inorder to explain test results; communicate stat and critical labresults; perform quality control, routine and advanced maintenanceand instrument troubleshooting

• Technical Knowledge. Maintainknowledge of required computer functions associated with testingand to assist in completing testing and workflow management; mayconduct research and development of new or updated technologies andprovide written evaluation to supervisor
• Leadership.

Assist intraining new and existing employees on new procedures andinstrumentation; act as a technical consultant to technologists,technicians and/or students rotating through their area; teach inthe School of Medical Technology and Lab rotations as needed
