The role encompasses a 50/50 split: 50% scheduled, structured clinical evaluation duties and 50% focused on education, mentorship, operational support, quality initiatives and program development with a focus on continuous professional growth and CEU opportunities. Work Shift Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

50%

Scheduled Clinical Responsibilities:

Plan and conduct structured clinical performance evaluations for sleep trainees, technicians, and technologists in accordance with AASM, BRPT, and lab-specific protocols. Perform direct observation and assessment of trainee, technician and technologist competencies in areas such as patient hookup, signal acquisition, troubleshooting, scoring accuracy, and emergency response protocols. Provide objective, real-time feedback and performance documentation. Conduct mock scenarios and simulation-based competency checks for new hires, annual reviews, or remediation as needed. Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety guidelines, and testing environment standards during evaluations. Collaborate with lab leadership to schedule and track required clinical competency assessments. 50%

Education, Administrative, and Operational Support:

Develop, implement, and maintain clinical competency assessment tools and training resources specific to sleep lab procedures and standards. Deliver onboarding education and skills training for new trainees, technicians, technologists and support staff. Provide coaching, mentorship, and continuing education sessions on topics such as PAP titration, scoring updates, patient safety, and emerging sleep technologies. Collaborate with leadership on accreditation preparation, policy updates, quality improvement initiatives and staff evaluations. Maintain accurate records of competency assessments, training activities, and remediation plans. Support operational functions of the sleep lab, including equipment audits, supply management, and workflow optimization projects. Stay current with industry guidelines, AASM standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to sleep medicine.

Qualifications:

Current RPSGT, RST, or equivalent credential. Minimum of 5 years of clinical sleep technology experience. Prior experience in clinical education, competency assessment, or supervisory role preferred. Strong communication, leadership, and critical-thinking skills. Familiarity with AASM standards, scoring guidelines and accreditation processes. Ability to adapt to changing schedules and meet the educational needs of a diverse clinical team. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Additional Job Description Education:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education required.

Experience:

A minimum of four years work experience specific to clinical area/department required.
