Job Summary:

This position assists in the technical oversight of the daily activities of a Laboratory department or Laboratory section to include the functions of personnel scheduling, quality control review, quality assurance management, workflow processing and instrument management. Management of testing instrumentation includes knowledge and a level of expertise at trouble shooting, data flow related to the Laboratory Information systems during typical processes but includes the Laboratory Information systems or Hospital Systems downtime and recovery. This position performs medical diagnostic testing and specimen processing in the Clinical Laboratory. Job Description:

6:00am to 2:30pm or 6:30am to 3:00pm Every 4th Weekend Lead Medical Technologist Position Description includes all the Role Responsibilities as a certified Medical Technologist and those listed below.
Performs and documents/records quality control as specified for each procedure to meet the established internal and regulatory guidelines. Must be able to identify quality control shifts and trends and resolve them as needed.
Participates in Quality Assurance activities to meet quality improvement standards. Performs proficiency testing in the same manner as patient specimens. Ensures all incidents that do not meet standard operating procedures are documented in the appropriate QA software for follow-up and investigation.
Understand basic principle(s) involved in all assigned procedures and must be able to apply this knowledge to the clinical situation or outcomes in the clinical diagnosis and management of the patient and to assist other technical staff as well. Must be able to determine if specimen integrity issues, patient medication(s) or other interfering substances are affecting patient testing results and be able to direct and guide technical staff on follow-up procedures.
Assists in the oversight of instrument trouble shooting and maintenance to ensure high quality results, ensures proper maintenance is performed and completed per the appropriate schedule or timeframe, and assists with the interaction with vendor Hot Lines and service personnel for repair or upgrade of instrumentation.
Assists with ensuring that all testing results are reported within the required time frame, especially the calling, documentation and follow-up of Critical Values in the Laboratory Information Systems.
Assists in the oversight of the collection of specimens according to laboratory policies and procedures for timely and accurate testing. Cleans, organizes and stocks lab work stations so work can be performed in a safe and orderly manner and follows all Safety policies and procedures, i.e. personal protective clothing, face shields, etc.
Enhances professional growth development of self, department staff, other hospital personnel, community and students by but not limited to, participation in continuing education and in-service training.
Ensures that all technical staff are cognizant of any cost saving activities to meet any and all budgetary parameters and work with the Supervisor or designee of the correct and appropriate ordering of reagents, rotating stock to minimize waste and outdating as well as maximizing the human resources by ensuring proper use of technical staff overtime and scheduling.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

Baccalaureate Degree in a Biological Science with completion of a NAACLS approved Medical Technology Program along with certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency as a Medical Technologist OR Baccalaureate Degree in a related field of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Microbiology) AND an advanced degree/certification in related field (i.e. MA in Chemistry, MA in Molecular or Microbiology, Certification in Molecular Diagnostics, etc.)

Hematology Kind and Length of Experience:

2 years of related technical experience post-graduation from a Medical Technology Program either in a laboratory department as a generalist or in a laboratory section with specialized experience.
Experience must be in a similar hospital laboratory environment for which the position is assigned i.e. Acute Care Hospital Laboratory or Rapid Response Laboratory.
