Summary:
The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist is responsible for leading and supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care, safety, and organizational efficiency in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. The PI Specialist will use data-driven strategies to assess processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement quality improvement initiatives that comply with TJC accreditation requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Performance Improvement Initiatives:
Develop, implement, and evaluate performance improvement initiatives across the organization in accordance with Joint Commission standards and accreditation requirements. Lead interdisciplinary teams to design and execute performance improvement projects focusing on patient care, clinical outcomes, safety, and operational effectiveness. Establish measurable goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate the success of PI projects.
Compliance and Standards Adherence:
Ensure all PI activities align with The Joint Commission’s standards, including but not limited to, patient safety goals, quality reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Interpret Joint Commission standards and provide guidance to leadership and staff on compliance with these standards. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of TJC requirements and integrate changes into organizational practices.
Data Collection and Analysis:
Collaborate with relevant departments to collect and analyze clinical and operational data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities. Utilize tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, and other PI methodologies to analyze data and inform decision-making. Prepare and present data reports for leadership, teams, and regulatory bodies as needed.
Training and Education:
Provide education and training on performance improvement methodologies, Joint Commission standards, and best practices for clinical staff and departments. Ensure staff are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to actively participate in performance improvement activities.
Collaboration and Communication:
Facilitate communication between leadership, clinical teams, and staff to ensure that improvement initiatives are well-supported and understood. Work with department managers to foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Act as a liaison for performance improvement-related activities with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies.
Documentation and Reporting:
Ensure that all PI activities are thoroughly documented and that appropriate records are maintained in accordance with Joint Commission standards. Prepare reports for quality committees, management, and The Joint Commission, documenting the status and outcomes of performance improvement projects.
Continuous Evaluation:
Conduct regular audits and evaluations of PI processes to ensure ongoing improvement and compliance with Joint Commission standards. Adjust and refine improvement strategies as necessary based on feedback, data analysis, and organizational goals. All other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in healthcare performance improvement, quality management, or a related field. Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, nursing, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
