Job Description
Peer Advocate 4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 171 East State Street, Ithaca, NY 14850 Peer Specialist RSS is seeking a full-time Peer Specialist for our newly launched Safe Options Support (SOS) team. The Peer Specialist’s role will involve community outreach on the streets and coordinating participant’s needs before and after their move from street to home. As a Peer Specialist you’ll have the opportunity to: Engage and outreach with participants in various settings Assess health and social needs Participate in hospital discharge planning Collaborate with housing providers Assist with appointment navigation Advocate for homeless individuals
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent or higher. NYS Certified Peer Specialist preferred or required completion of an internship or comparable training in peer advocacy Experience in peer advocacy and working with mentally ill and/or homeless individuals Past or current participant of behavioral health, substance services or homeless services preferred. Knowledge of homeless resources in Tioga and Tompkins counties a plus
Responsibilities:
Monitor progress and evaluate outcomes Build relationships with community providers Proficiency in report preparation and computer usage Perform other related duties as assigned
Location:
Travel required throughout Tioga and Tompkins counties. This roll may require periodic on-call coverage and a willingness to work flexible hours
