The main purpose of the Dental Assistant is to perform dutiesthat assist the dentist, hygienists and other assistants in thecare and treatment of patients. Supports dental team by preparingtreatment room, patient, instruments, and materials whileperforming procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.
Performs duties in the field of reception, chairside assisting,sterilization, inventory, and records. This is a full-time, benefiteligible position working Monday-Friday, 7:45 am – 4:15 pm.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – JOB SPECIFIC
Outreach Educate/Promote oralhealth through presentations in local schools, civic organizations,community programs and various other entities Promote and implementthe Preventive Services Program (PSP) in local schools ClinicalReview of health history Dental charting Take dental radiographsPerform infection control and sterilization procedures Educatepatients about appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oralhealth; (tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling)Counsel patients about nutrition and its impact on oral healthAssist dentist with the following aspects of dentistry: oralsurgery, restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and preventiveExpanded Function Duties when registered with the state:(Restorative I, Restorative II, Fixed Prosthodontics, RemovableProsthodontics) Follow CDC and OSHA regulations Assist in themanagement of medical/dental emergencies Assist with inventorymanagement Prepare treatment room for patient by followingprescribed procedures and protocols instructed by dentist Performpatient vitals Professional communication amongst team, andpatients Ensures operation of dental equipment by completingpreventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’sinstructions Conserves dental resources by using equipment andsupplies as needed to accomplish job results Help patients feelcomfortable before, during and after dental treatment Travel toother dental clinics, as needed Other duties as assigned (which mayinclude cross-training for front desk duties)
