Kingston Pike VA Dental Clinic (Knoxville) Videos Duties The Lead Dental Assistant facilites team or unit processes by working collaborively with team members or employees to ensure th tasks are completed, th good working relionships among team members and with management are maintained, and th team priorities and goals, needs, and achievements are coordined with management. Dental Assistants this level serve in staff dental assistant positions independently performing more complex work in assigned specialties in lead dental assistant positions. Incumbents must maintain current Dental Assisting Nional Board (DANB) certificion. Dental Assistants assist the dentist in many aspects of direct pient care and performs other clinical and clerical functions independent of direct supervision. The dental assistant receives and prepares pients for dental trement and assists the dentist chairside, bedside or in the opering room. Leads a team of employees performing the GS-7 level or below. Provides guidance and technical direction necessary for accomplishing the work of the team. Checks work in progress to see th the supervisor’s instructions have been met. Serves as a work leader, assuring the work assignments of employees in the unit are carried out. Coordines daily dental assistant work assignments the start of the shift and throughout the day as the need arises. Monitors the stus and progress of work and makes adjustment in accordance with established priorities. Serves as Systems Redesign Coordinor. Obtains assistance from the supervisor as needed for major issues or problems which arise. Instructs employees in specific tasks and job techniques. Trains employees (dentist, dental residents, and dental assistants) in computerized dental pient record systems including genering pient consults, storing and viewing digital images, entry of diagnostic da and preparion of trement planning. Trains team members, students and volunteers in the accomplishment of tasks or projects. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions from team members on procedures, policies, and directives. Organizes and maintains Merial Safety Da Sheets (MSDS). Provides input in developing Standard Opering Procedures (SOP) for the dental staff for Reusable Medical. Equipment (RME). Trains dental staff in SOPs and reports noncompliance to supervisor. Participes in the management of dental supplies to assure adeque stock levels and approprie storage. Serves as a liaison between the scheduler and the dentist to maintain efficient and productive use of the dentists’ pient care time and minimize missed opportunities. Makes written instructions, reference merials, and relevant background merial available. Obtains needed informion on decisions from the supervisor on major issues and problems th arise. Reports to the supervisor on individual performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on performance problems. Makes recommendions to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, recognitions of performance and personnel needs. Maintains the dental stion and trement area in a clean and operional condition. Assures th the dental trement area is set up and shut down each work day to maintain security of the clinic area and dental equipment. Deleges these duties as necessary. Monitors function of dental equipment and requests repair or replacement. Prepares electronic work orders and monitors completion.

Certificion:

Public Law 97-35 requires th persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. You must have successfully completed an educional program th meets or exceeds the standards described in this regulion, and is accredited by an organizion recognized by the Department of Educion, and be certified as radiographers in their field. Certificion of Radiologic Competence:

Successful completion of the Dental Radiion Health and Safety Examinion administered by the Dental Assisting Nional Board, Inc. OR, Successful completion of the Principles and Practice of Dental Radiology and Radiographic Safety courses and examinions developed by the Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Dentistry. OR, Successful completion of a radiion health and safety program or examinion approved by a ste board of dentistry or the Department of Defense (DoD). Certificion in basic life support methods is highly desirable. Certificion by the Dental Assisting Nional Board (DANB). DANB certificion is not required, but highly desirable for the appointment of Dental Assistants up to and including the full performance level, and is required for all positions above the full performance level. Grandfhering Provision. All Dental Assistants employed in VHA on the effective de of the qualificion standard (04/19/2011) are considered to have met all qualificion requirements for the title, series and grade held, including certificion th are part of the basic requirements of the occupion. Such employees must meet the certificion requirement before they can be promoted to those higher grade levels. Dental Assistants who are appointed on a temporary basis prior to the effective de of the qualificion standard may not have their temporary appointment extended or be reappointed, on a temporary or permanent basis, until they fully meet the basic requirements of the standard.
