JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Graduate/Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside surgical dental assistance for faculty in the Department of Faculty Practice in the College Dentistry. This position performs administrative front desk tasks in a dental school environment. Responsibilities
Prepares for clinical encounters with room turnover, preparation of instruments, and acquisition of appropriate supplies for surgical procedures
Provides chairside clinical support throughout the procedure, including, as needed, documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Counsel patients following surgical procedures and explain instructions as outlined for treatment by the doctor.
Takes x-rays; exposes and processes x-ray film or process of digital images.
Ensures working area, instruments, and equipment meet OSHA sterilization regulations.
Performs preventive equipment maintenance and routine maintenance.
Ensures emergency crash kit is properly stocked and prepared for use.
Maintains necessary inventory of supplies and equipment.
Assists with scheduling of patients, appointment reminders, or patient outreach
Assists with billing/coding under the direction of the supervising provider.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:

EXPERIENCE

No experience required (Graduate Dental Assistant); OR one (1) year experience working chairside in a dental practice (Clinical Dental Assistant). Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF

OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring is required. (PROOF
