Supervising Dentist 3.2 3.2 out of 5 stars Chattanooga, TN 37403 Job Summary The Supervising Dentist is responsible for the clinical leadership, supervision, and strategic oversight of dental care delivery within the FQHC. The Supervising Dentist will oversee one additional dentist and support staff within a growing practice focused on prevention, treatment, and community-based outreach. This role ensures high standards of care, compliance with regulatory guidelines, and integration of dental services into the broader health center model. Working in partnership with the Director of Dental Services, the Supervising Dentist focuses on clinical performance, quality assurance, provider support, and care innovation, while operational logistics, staffing workflows, and facilities management are led by the Director of Dental Services Education and Experience Required Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited dental school. Current and Valid license to practice dentistry in the state of Tennessee. DEA registration and current BLS/CPR certification Minimum five years of experience in a clinical setting, with experience in dental management required. Maintain an active role in state and city dental associations. Strong leadership and management skills Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and community partners. Commitment to health equity, patient-centered care, and team-based practice. Knowledge of dental practice management software and electronic health records. Experience working with underserved populations preferred. Experience Preferences Knowledge and understanding of
HIV/AIDS, HCV
(hepatitis C virus), and STI’s, their transmission, prevention, and progression or a closely related field.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
(includes, but not limited to): Clinical Leadership Provide direct patient care as part of clinical responsibilities. Supervise all dental providers, including dentists, hygienists, and expanded function dental auxiliaries (i.e. EFDAs, RDA, CDA). Oversee clinical protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based care standards. Facilitate peer review, chart audits, provider onboarding, and professional development. Ensure integration of dental care into whole-person care, including medical and behavioral health coordination. Establish and implement evidence-based clinical protocols in alignment with HRSA and ADA guidelines. Promote integration of oral health into primary care and behavioral health services. Collaborative Leadership with
Director of Dental Services:
Work closely with the Director of Dental Services to ensure efficient scheduling, productivity optimization, patient flow, and operational support. Provide clinical input on workflow design, supply needs, and equipment planning. Jointly develop strategic goals for the dental department in alignment with health center priorities. Support operational initiatives by offering clinical insights that promote both quality and efficiency. Supervision & Staff Development Supervise and support one staff dentist, providing mentorship, clinical oversight, and performance evaluations. Collaborate with dental hygienists, assistants, and support staff to foster a team-based, trauma-informed care environment. Lead recruitment, onboarding, and continuing education efforts for dental clinical staff. Program Administration Develop and monitor quality improvement initiatives, including UDS measures and compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Oversee OSHA compliance, Emergency medications and maintenance of dental equipment in collaboration with the operations team. Engage with community partners to promote oral health outreach and education. Promote and expand access to preventive and restorative services for underserved populations. Compliance Ensure all dental services comply with HRSA, CDC, OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, and state board requirements. Lead dental quality assurance and performance improvement. Participate in risk management, incident reviews, infection control oversight, and safety audits.
