Job Description

Position Description The Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist is responsible for providing direct nutrition services to clients enrolled in GMHC s Pantry and Meals Programs, in accordance with the program workplan and deliverables outlined by the funder, Public Health Solutions. This includes performing comprehensive nutrition assessments, providing individualized counseling, supporting menu and pantry planning, and conducting educational workshops. The role involves close collaboration with the Cook, Cook Assistant, and program leadership to ensure nutritional standards are met and that services are responsive to the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS and other co-morbidities. Essential Job Functions The following duties are mandatory requirements of the position: Conduct Comprehensive Nutrition Assessments for all newly enrolled Pantry Program clients to evaluate dietary needs, medical history, and food access. Provide individual nutrition counseling to clients, tailoring education and guidance to medical conditions, dietary restrictions, and personal preferences. Collaborate with the Cook and Cook Assistant to plan and review hot meal menus, ensuring they meet appropriate nutritional guidelines and cultural preferences. Support the Pantry Program in reviewing and refining food inventory and orders to ensure alignment with USDA guidelines and overall health-promoting selections. Develop and deliver group nutrition education sessions and workshops aimed at increasing knowledge of healthy eating habits, cooking techniques, and chronic disease prevention. Maintain accurate documentation of client assessments, service plans, and follow-up activities in accordance with HIPAA and funding requirements. Track and report on program deliverables related to nutrition services, contributing to monthly and quarterly reporting to Public Health Solutions. Participate in program planning, evaluation, and quality improvement activities to ensure services are client-centered and aligned with best practices in nutrition care. Special Skills and Knowledge Demonstrated ability to perform individualized and culturally responsive nutrition counseling. Knowledge of food insecurity, chronic disease prevention, and nutritional needs of people living with

HIV/AIDS.

Familiarity with food assistance programs, including TEFAP, HPNAP, and USDA guidelines. Experience working with individuals from underserved communities, including LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and low-income populations. Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail and compliance. Excellent interpersonal communication and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines. Education and Certification Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) certification required. Bachelor s or Master s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience providing nutrition services to individuals with chronic illnesses or other sensitive health conditions. Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Comfortable using electronic health record (EHR) systems and digital platforms for remote counseling and documentation. Familiarity with virtual presentation tools such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Work Environment & Schedule This is a hybrid position, requiring three days per week onsite and remote work flexibility based on program needs and supervisory guidance. Mandatory participation in the annual AIDS Walk New York event and other agency-wide initiatives is required. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be necessary for workshops, events, or client needs. Physical Demands While carrying out the responsibilities of this role: The position is primarily office-based and sedentary, involving extended periods of computer use, phone communication, and video conferencing. Must be able to navigate a standard office environment and attend in-person meetings or off-site events as needed.
