Negotiable Hourly Job Summary/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing assessment of the nutritional needs of the campus community and ensure their health and nutritional wellbeing.
- Assist in establishing nutrition-related health priorities, determine a base line to monitor campus change pertaining to eating behaviors, identify emerging nutrition-related issues, identify and strengthen existing resources, and develop and implement plans of action.
This would include, but would not be limited to, the development and implementation of a campus assessment of environment/resources, culture/preferences, and trends of food behaviors and body image.
- Serve as liaison between UNF’s Department of Recreation and Wellness, UNF Student Health Services, UNF Counseling Center and UNF Dining Services giving focus to student’s needs of highest priority. In addition to facilitating the development of peer outreach and educational programing.
- Screen, assess, and provide nutrition counseling and appropriate referral to students regarding specific health/nutritional needs, such as Student Health Services, UNF Counseling Center, or Lend A Wing Food Pantry.
- Support healthy lifestyle choices and health maintenance throughout the campus community by working collaboratively with the Brooks College of Health, Department of Recreation and Wellness, Ogier Garden, Housing Services, Student Organizations and Clubs (i.e. Student Nutrition Club), UNF Dining Services (Chartwells), and more.
- Other duties may include occasional guest lecturer for a nutrition class or informal group, Lunch and Learn Events, cooking demonstrations, grocery store tours, informational tabling and educational outreach throughout campus, connect with students via social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, plan and implement events during National Nutrition Month. Specific Duties
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments, interpret biochemical and clinical data, and monitor those at nutritional risk.
Make appropriate notations and recommendations in the student’s electronic medical record. Develop treatment plan based on nutrition assessment, which may include some of the following: disordered eating, diabetes, allergies/intolerances, GI concerns, hypertension, abnormal blood lipids, and weight management. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of nutritional goals/recommendations and revise as needed upon follow-up.
- Responsible for assessing need for patient referral to registered nurse, psychologist, exercise physiologist, social worker, smoking cessation facilitator, or other health care professional on or off campus.
- Supervise Dietetic Interns and dietetic undergraduate students.
- Responsible for facilitating presentations to student groups on various topics related to health and wellness on campus.
- Work with members of wellness team to develop educational materials and protocols based on student needs.
- Responsible for staying up to date on Continuing Education, state licensure and RD Certification.
- Participate in nutrition related community-outreach activities, such as health fairs, public speaking, school programs and any other health and wellness programs which include a nutrition element.
- Create original nutrition-content for social media outlets, with strong focus on Instagram.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or related field.
- Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or eligible to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration Exam
- Licensed by the State of Florida Department of Professional Regulation Dietetics/Nutrition Council or will be eligible. Specific Skills and Competencies
- Strong assessment and planning skills, group facilitation, and writing skills
- Ability to apply current evidenced-based nutrition recommendations
- Ability to motivate and enthuse others in initiating behavior change
- Strong work ethic and passion for the field of nutrition
- Ability to work effectively as a team member while also being able to work independently
- Strong listening and communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to be flexible
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva and social media platforms including Instagram, X, Facebook and YouTube.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master’s Degree in relevant health/wellness area
- 2+ years’ experience with nutrition screening and nutrition education with one year experience specific to nutritional counseling.
- Experience working within a university or college setting preferred, with residential food services or in clinical consultation with adult population.
- Experience counseling patients for nutrition related health problems such as: disordered eating patterns, diabetes, allergies, malabsorption syndromes, and other metabolic illness.
- Experience identifying eating disorders and referring out appropriately.
- Strong understanding of the Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size frameworks
- Knowledge of culinary processes including food preparation and demonstration.
